Job summary

EGR Group, a leading Australian manufacturer, is seeking a hands-on Production Technician for their Wacol facility. The role focuses on operating and optimising the Edge Banding Extrusion Line, testing new equipment, troubleshooting, and driving process improvements to ensure high-quality edge banding products.

You will work closely with Production, Maintenance and Quality teams to uphold efficiency, safety and documentation standards while developing technical expertise in extrusion processes.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in mechanical manufacturing engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in production engineering roles and troubleshooting extrusion machinery.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and machine parameters.

Responsibilities

• Operate, set up, monitor and optimise the Edge Banding Extrusion Line to achieve production and quality targets.
• Perform machine adjustments, changeovers and process parameter settings to maintain consistent product quality.
• Monitor production processes, including temperature, pressure, speed and material flow.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve machinery, equipment and process-related issues to minimise downtime.
• Conduct quality checks and inspections to ensure products meet required specifications and standards.
• Support preventative maintenance activities and collaborate with maintenance personnel to resolve equipment issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce waste and optimise machine performance.
• Maintain accurate production records, process documentation and quality reports.
• Assist with implementing process improvements and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment in accordance with EGR's workplace health and safety requirements.

About the Role

We are seeking a Production Technician with mechanical engineering qualifications to support the operation, performance and continuous improvement of our Edge Banding Extrusion Line at our Wacol facility.

This is a hands-on technical role that combines machinery operation, process monitoring, troubleshooting and production optimisation to ensure the efficient manufacture of high-quality edge banding products.

Working closely with our Production, Maintenance and Quality teams, you will play an important role in maintaining production efficiency, identifying process improvements and ensuring equipment operates safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a technical manufacturing environment, has strong problem-solving abilities and takes pride in producing high-quality products.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or a related technical discipline.

• Previous experience in a production engineering, production technician, process technician or similar manufacturing role.

• Experience operating, setting up or troubleshooting extrusion machinery or automated production equipment.

• A sound understanding of manufacturing processes, machine parameters and production efficiency.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment or process issues.

• Experience conducting quality checks and maintaining production standards.

• Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a production team.

• A strong commitment to workplace safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Highly Regarded:

• Experience with plastics extrusion, edge banding production or polymer processing.

• Experience in machine commissioning, process optimisation or continuous improvement initiatives.

• Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and manufacturing quality systems.
