Job summary

Majestic Young Plants in Healesville, Victoria, is seeking an experienced Production Horticulture Supervisor to lead crop growing and dispatch across our greenhouses and shadehouses.

You will supervise daily activities, optimize irrigation and fertigation, monitor pests, oversee post-harvest handling, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards, reporting to the Production Manager and Nursery Operations Manager.

Qualifications

• Certificate III or IV in Production Horticulture or Nursery Operations, or 3+ years in production horticulture with formal training.
• ChemCert accreditation (Chemical Users) is preferred.
• Forklift licence desirable.
• Proven supervisory experience in nursery/production horticulture.
• Strong knowledge of plant health, crop scheduling and quality standards.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Literacy and numeracy skills, and proficiency in MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and coordinating daily growing and dispatch activities across the nursery.
• Establishing propagated crops and regulating growth to time and quality for sale.
• Planning and managing irrigation, fertigation and greenhouse conditions.
• Monitoring crops for pests, diseases and disorders and reporting issues.
• Carrying out pest and disease control procedures when required.
• Preparing, transporting, storing and applying chemicals for crop protection.
• Operating and maintaining production equipment and ensuring withholding periods.
• Running the post-harvest program: grading, packing and dispatching orders to standards.
• Training and supervising nursery staff and maintaining records.

Majestic Young Plants is a propagation nursery and horticultural company, supplying wholesale markets in Australia and internationally with high-quality plant material. We are located in Healesville, Victoria, and are seeking an experienced Production Horticulture Supervisor to lead crop growing and dispatch across our greenhouses and shadehouses.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervising and coordinating daily growing and dispatch activities across the nursery Establishing propagated crops and regulating crop growth, timing and quality through to sale
• Planning and managing irrigation, fertigation and greenhouse growing conditions Monitoring crops for pests, diseases and disorders, and reporting unusual disease or plant pest signs Carrying out emergency disease or plant pest control procedures when required
• Preparing, transporting, storing and applying chemicals to control pests, weeds and diseases Operating and maintaining chemical application and specialised production equipment Making sure crops have passed their chemical withholding periods before dispatch
• Running the post-harvest program: grading, picking, packing and dispatching orders to quality standards with minimal plant damage Performing shed and nursery activities as needed Working with the Production Manager, Head Grower and the Nursery Operations Manager and maintenance team
• Allocating work to, training and supervising nursery staff Keeping accurate crop, spray and dispatch records

Requirements

• Certificate III or IV in Production Horticulture or Nursery Operations, or at least 3 years’ experience in production horticulture with relevant formal training (or 5 years without it) Current Chemical Users / ChemCert accreditation Forklift licence (desirable)
• Proven supervisory experience in a nursery or production horticulture setting Strong knowledge of plant health, crop scheduling and quality standards Understanding of health and safety regulations
• Literacy and numeracy skills, and proficiency in MS Office
