Job summary

Susquehanna is seeking a Production Engineer to join our Sydney-based team, focusing on stabilizing and scaling a Linux-driven production environment for our trading desk. You will build tooling, monitor performance, and ensure reliability across a distributed system.

You will work closely with technologists, traders, and quants, gaining exposure to market microstructure and operational risk. Weekend coverage is required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Linux/Unix experience and be hands-on
• Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting required
• Experience supporting production or mission-critical systems in finance/trading environment preferred
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with traders, quants, and engineers
• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related technical discipline obtained

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Python and Bash scripts to monitor health, performance, and dependencies of production environments
• Monitor and support a distributed Linux-based trading system
• Partner with Platform Engineering on server imaging, testing, deployment, and config
• Serve as a liaison between trading desk and network, security, market data, and platform teams on production issues
• Provide multi-level production support for traders and researchers
• Help improve system reliability, automation, and operational efficiency across the stack

Job description

You will work directly with our technologists, traders, and quantitative research analysts to build, monitor, and support the production environment on a highly automated trading desk. This role is heavily hands-on with Linux/Unix systems, where you will develop tooling to ensure stability, performance, and reliability across a complex, distributed environment.

You will also contribute to the development and maintenance of software build and deployment tools on Linux, while gaining exposure to market microstructure and understanding how system architecture and operational risk directly impact trading.

This role is supporting a global team and will require you to work one day on a weekend.

In this role, you will:

• Design and develop Python and Bash scripts to monitor the health, performance, and dependencies of a mission-critical production environment
• Monitor and support a highly distributed Linux-based trading system
• Partner with the Platform Engineering team on server imaging, testing, deployment, and system configuration
• Act as a key liaison between the trading desk and network, security, market data, and platform teams on production issues and new system setups
• Provide multi-level production support for traders, strategists, and quantitative researchers
• Help improve system reliability, automation, and operational efficiency across the trading stack

What we're looking for

• Must hold full working rights to work in Australia
• Strong, hands-on experience with Linux/Unix systems (essential) — this role is deeply OS-focused
• Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python and Bash, required
• Experience supporting production or mission-critical systems in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with traders, quants, and engineers
• Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues under pressure
• Financial services or trading environment experience preferred, but not required
• Good understanding of financial instruments and markets is a plus
• Excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
