Job summary

Westpac Group in Sydney, NSW seeks a Product Owner, Data Platform Engineering to lead the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of enterprise data platform capabilities. You will own and drive cloud-based data platforms, data products, and analytics capabilities, working with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical delivery plans.

You'll lead engineering teams, oversee governance, security, and compliance, manage budgets and relationships, and champion DevSecOps and DataOps practices.

Job Description

What's the role?

As a Product Owner, Data Platform Engineering, you'll lead the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of enterprise data platform capabilities. Working across business and technology teams, you'll drive platform innovation, engineering excellence, and the delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable data solutions that support critical business outcomes.

You will:

• Own and deliver the data platform roadmap and capability strategy.
• Lead engineering teams responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise data platforms.
• Drive delivery of cloud-based data platforms, trusted data products, and analytics capabilities.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and delivery plans.
• Oversee prioritisation, delivery governance, risk management, and operational performance.
• Champion engineering best practices, automation, DevSecOps, DataOps, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure data governance, security, compliance, and platform reliability standards are met.
• Manage team capacity, vendor relationships, budgets, and financial planning activities.
• Collaborate closely with Architecture, Security, Operations, and Delivery teams to achieve strategic outcomes.

What do I need?

We're looking for an experienced technology leader with a strong background in modern data platforms and engineering delivery.

You'll ideally bring:

• Experience leading enterprise-scale data platform delivery and transformation programs.
• Strong knowledge of cloud data technologies, data engineering practices, and platform modernisation.
• Experience with platforms such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, data lakes, and data warehousing solutions.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver complex technology initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, vendor management, and financial management skills.
• Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and product ownership practices.
• Understanding of data governance, security, risk, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
