Nufarm is seeking an experienced Process Safety Specialist to join the HSE team at the Pipe Road manufacturing site in Laverton North, Melbourne. The role focuses on strengthening the site's Process Safety Management System, risk management framework, and Safety Case within a complex chemical manufacturing environment.

Reporting to the HSE Lead, you will work with manufacturing, engineering and HSE teams to minimise risk, maintain regulatory compliance and enhance the site's process-safety

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in complex chemical manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Strong experience in Safety Cases and Major Hazard Facilities.
• Proficient in PHA techniques: HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, Bow Tie.
• Ability to guide diverse groups through risk assessments and safety discussions.
• Experience liaising with government/regulatory bodies in Australia.
• Auditing, root-cause analysis and Lean/Six Sigma familiarity would be advantageous.

Nufarm is looking for an experienced Process Safety Specialist to join the HSE team at the Pipe Road manufacturing site in Laverton North, Melbourne. Reporting to the HSE Lead, you'll provide specialist Process Safety support and technical expertise within a complex chemical-manufacturing environment. As Pipe Road is a Major Hazard Facility, you'll help ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of the site's Process Safety Management System, Risk Management framework and Safety Case. You'll work closely with manufacturing, engineering and HSE teams to minimise operational risk, maintain regulatory compliance and strengthen the site's process-safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the site operates in accordance with Nufarm policies, standards and relevant Occupational Health and Safety and Major Hazard Facility regulations
• Act as a subject-matter expert for the Pipe Road Process Safety Management System and Safety Case
• Maintain the site Safety Case, ensuring its content remains accurate, current and appropriately verified
• Coordinate and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis activities, including HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, Bow Tie assessments and other risk reviews
• Administer and support the site Management of Change system, ensuring proposed changes are assessed and implemented safely
• Provide Process Safety guidance and technical support to manufacturing operations and engineering projects
• Support the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the site Health, Safety and Environmental Management System
• Participate in internal and external audits and help address identified gaps and improvement opportunities
• Contribute to root-cause investigations and help develop effective corrective and preventive actions
• Conduct regular proactive field interactions with the wider manufacturing team to confirm Process Safety systems and controls are understood and followed

About you

• Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
• At least five years of experience within complex chemical manufacturing, construction, engineering or another relevant heavy-industry environment
• Strong experience in Safety Cases, Major Hazard Facilities, Process Safety Management and risk engineering
• Confident facilitating Process Hazard Analysis activities using methodologies such as HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA and Bow Tie analysis
• Ability to effectively guide diverse groups of technical specialists, operational employees and contractors through complex risk assessments and safety discussions
• Experience engaging with government and regulatory bodies, together with a good understanding of Australian requirements for chemical-manufacturing environments
• Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management or a related field would be advantageous
• Experience with auditing, root-cause analysis, Lean or Six Sigma concepts and risk-management systems would be highly regarded
• Collaborative, action-oriented and comfortable working in the field
• Ability to communicate objectively, influence stakeholders effectively and commitment to strengthening Process Safety systems, culture and performance
