Job summary

ACCIONA is commissioning a major seawater desalination project in Perth, Western Australia. The role involves startup, performance testing and early operation, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and operations teams to ensure a safe, efficient start-up.

You will engage in control room monitoring and field-based troubleshooting, gaining exposure to control philosophies and process systems on a project of this scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant field.
• Experience commissioning or operating water treatment/desalination plants.
• Ability to read PFDs, P&IDs and control philosophies.
• Working knowledge of SCADA or DCS control systems.
• Willingness to be fully site-based for commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Develop working knowledge of assigned process systems and control logic.
• Support safe execution of commissioning activities to spec and procedure.
• Collaborate with operators, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation teams.
• Conduct system walkdowns, punch listing and completion verification.
• Support loop checks, sequence testing and cause-and-effect matrix testing.
• Review process trends and data to inform commissioning decisions.
• Apply HSSE systems including PTW, LOTO and risk assessments.

ACCIONA is leading the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant in Perth, a $2.8 billion project delivered in alliance with Water Corporation and Jacobs. Stage 1 will produce 150 million litres of drinking water a day for Western Australians. The plant integrates seawater desalination with on-site groundwater treatment, a first for a plant of this scale in WA. Construction is underway, with commissioning targeted for 2028.

About Opportunity

This role supports the commissioning, start-up, performance testing and initial operation of the Alkimos plant. You will work across control room monitoring and field-based troubleshooting, coordinating with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and operations teams to support a safe, efficient start-up. It suits an engineer looking to build technical, operational and leadership capability on a large-scale water infrastructure project, with genuine exposure to commissioning at a scale few projects in Australia can offer.
