About the role
AEMO's WA Operations department is responsible for the real-time operation of the South-West Interconnected System (SWIS) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), which supply electricity to the South-West of WA, and the operation of the Gas Bulletin Board (WA).
You will provide subject matter expertise on matters relating to delivery of the Short Term Energy Market, GBB (WA), NCESS and System Restart contracts, DER Register, and other operational functions. You will also support market functions of WA’s Wholesale Electricity Market in accordance with the Market Rules and the Gas Services Information rules.
The role is fast paced and operationally focused, with time sensitive tasks and frequent stakeholder engagement in a supportive team environment. It will provide you with a broad exposure to how our markets and systems work and gain a deeper understanding of their intricacies and complexities.
The role is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract based in Perth, however, location is negotiable. Part-time working options are potentially available, along with very flexible hybrid working arrangements.
There is an opportunity to join a weekend on-call roster approximately every two months, with on-call allowance.
What you will be doing
Undertake technically challenging quantitative and qualitative analysis to support reporting and decision making and communicate analytical insights to a broad audience of internal and external stakeholders.
Drive and lead the identification, analysis, definition and implementation of complex, challenging rule, process and system changes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness across markets, systems and processes in line with strategic requirements.
As a subject matter authority, lead strategic projects driving analysis, option development, stakeholder engagement and rule development and implementation.
Identify and manage response to 24/7 operational issues impacting the efficient and effective operation of the WEM and GBB (WA) in compliance with relevant regulations, rules and procedures.
Assist the Manager in developing and executing agreed team activities and projects. Contribute to the ongoing development of team members and provide training to junior team members.
What you will bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Engineering, Computing, Science or Finance.
Strong experience in the energy industry in a commercial organisation, market body or government department, with a strong understanding of the WEM and GSI rules, especially with respect to operation of the STEM and GBB (WA).
Advanced quantitative analysis skills using tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI or Python.
A passion for energy with a comprehensive understanding of the changes in the energy sector and how these affect AEMO.
