Job summary

Beca's Australian Ports and Maritime team is growing, seeking a Principal – Ports and Maritime Engineering to lead and shape our maritime business from Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane. You'll work on port and coastal projects across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, delivering technical leadership and strong client relationships.

Ideal candidates will be degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Chartered Engineer, and bring senior-level delivery experience in port/marine

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Familiar with Australian and local codes/standards for marine structures.
  • Experience with international codes/standards (IBC, British Standards, PIANC, OCIMF, USACE).
  • Masterplanning for port/shipyard projects.
  • Experience working with Contractors on Design and Construct projects.

Ports and Maritime at Beca Beca has been supporting and providing maritime consultancy services to government, Industrial and Defence clients for over 80 years – and over this time our Ports and Maritime team have developed a keen understanding of the types of solutions that meet the demands of the users and key stakeholders. We have extensive experience of working in the marine environment and fully understand the challenges faced when constructing and maintaining maritime infrastructure. Our multidisciplinary teams deliver integrated solution to ports and maritime projects, drawing upon experience from projects both internationally and across Australia. Services that include all stages of a project - from the early planning, studies and concept work, through to detailed design and on to construction assistance and management.

The opportunity

Our Australian Ports and Maritime team is growing strongly with work across the transport, defence and industrial markets ongoing and a strong pipeline. To help accelerate this growth we are seeking a Principal – Ports and Maritime Engineering to help lead and shape our maritime business, to be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane. Working on a wide variety of port and coastal engineering projects across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands - you’ll be part of a team of highly skilled professionals who will support you as you further advance your technical, client management and job management skills. This is a key role that will see you take responsibility for:

  • Helping to shape the growth of the maritime business across the region
  • Maintaining and developing strong relationships with our clients and industry partners
  • Providing technical leadership in the maritime sector
  • Leadership of a range of complex maritime projects across the wider region
  • Developing a culture of outstanding delivery within the team
  • Business development activities from the early identification of opportunities through to their active pursuit and securing of projects with our clients and industry partners

About you

You will bring the passion and enthusiasm to help shape the growth of our Ports and Maritime business and have extensive senior level experience in port/marine infrastructure projects in a consulting environment. This experience will be across a range of assignments within the maritime market including across technical delivery, project leadership and maintaining client relationship. You will be Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar, as well as being a Chartered Engineer.

  • Familiar with Australian and local codes/ technical standards applicable to the design development of marine structures.
  • Extensive experience with international codes and standards applicable to the maritime business (i.e. IBC, British Standards, PIANC, OCIMF, USACE etc.)
  • Masterplanning for port and/or shipyard projects
  • Working in the Pacific and design of works in the Pacific region
  • Experience working with Contractors, delivering designs under Design and Construct and similar arrangements
