Job summary
Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead hands-on engineering and platform enablement across a large Business Banking technology environment in Australia. You will shape engineering standards, uplift developer experience and help delivery teams adopt modern practices.
You'll build with cloud, automation, DevSecOps and AI-powered engineering to advance the technology estate, while partnering with squads to deliver secure, reliable outcomes at pace.
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on coding.
- Experience with modern software delivery and DevSecOps practices.
- Ability to uplift engineering capability at scale.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, setting engineering direction and mentoring senior engineers.
- Design, build and evolve platforms, tools and reusable capabilities for easier engineering.
- Establish engineering standards, patterns, guardrails and golden paths for quality and consistency.
- Partner with squads to uplift engineering practices and support adoption.
- Champion automation and AI-powered approaches across the delivery lifecycle.
- Improve developer experience with self-service capabilities and standardized pipelines.
- Collaborate with architecture, security, risk, data and engineering teams to deliver enterprise-aligned solutions.
- Strengthen observability, reliability, and cost optimisation as part of daily work.
