Job summary

Darebin City Council is seeking a Principal Open Space Planner in Melbourne, VIC, to coordinate and deliver strategic open space planning initiatives that support council objectives and climate resilience.

You will develop and review open space strategies, plan and design new spaces and major upgrades across the municipality, collaborate with the Capital Works team, and assess planning proposals related to open space.

Qualifications

• Experience in open space planning or landscape architecture.
• Understanding of open space planning and development principles.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Tertiary qualification in urban planning or landscape architecture.

About the role:

The Principal Open Space Planner will Coordinate and deliver strategic open space planning initiatives that support Councils open space and recreation objectives and priorities and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

You will:

• Contribute to the development and review of open space strategies, planning policies and frameworks.
• Coordinate the planning and design of new open spaces and major open space upgrades across the municipality.
• Support the delivery of new open space projects in collaboration with the Capital Works team.
• Assess and provide advice on open space-related planning proposals, referrals and planning scheme amendments.

About you:

• Demonstrated experience in open space planning, landscape architecture or a related strategic land use planning discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding of open space planning and development principles.
• Demonstrated stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Tertiary qualification in urban planning, landscape architecture or related discipline.
