Job summary

Mineral Resources Limited seeks a Principal for Environmental Planning and Approvals to lead environmental approvals delivery and provide trusted technical advice across operations. You will guide projects, ensure compliance, and work with internal and external stakeholders to progress approvals while mentoring senior advisors.

You will report to the Approvals Lead in a collaborative environment that values knowledge sharing, professional development and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in an environmental, consulting, or EIA-related role within the mining or marine sector.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and operational environmental advice across all levels of a business.
  • Experience assessing project and operational risks and implementing appropriate management measures.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, including conflict resolution.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience working within large, multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for undertaking the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approvals processes to ensure the timely delivery of regulatory approvals under, but not limited to, the Mining Act, Parts IV and V of Environmental Protection Act, the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, Sea Dumping Act as required for exploration, greenfield and operational projects
  • Responsible for the preparation of Project Approval Execution Plans and schedules for new projects and significant amendments considering available resources and benchmarked assessment timeframes.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to obtain project information to enable planning of environmental studies, EIA and preparation of approval applications.
  • Developing project specific and Business Unit approval strategies in collaboration with senior leadership and Planning teams
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate biological surveys are undertaken to support environmental approvals in consultation with the Biodiversity team.
  • Project Management and quality assurance of consultants conducting environmental and technical studies in accordance with agreed timeframes

The Opportunity

Following a recent restructure to better support the full mine lifecycle, our West Pilbara Environmental team now comprises three specialist streams: Approvals, Compliance, and Mine Closure and Rehabilitation. Together, these teams provide an end-to-end environmental function across the Pilbara Hub, from the port through to our flagship iron ore operation at Ken’s Bore.

As the Principal for Environmental Planning and Approvals, you will lead the delivery of environmental approvals and provide trusted technical advice across all aspects of our operations. You will play a critical role in enabling the ongoing development of operational projects across our project areas, ensuring approvals requirements are understood, managed and delivered effectively.

You will lead, mentor and develop Senior Environmental Advisors and Environmental Advisors, while working closely with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to progress environmental approvals. Your expertise will be integral to navigating regulatory requirements, supporting project delivery and driving positive environmental outcomes.
