Job summary

Lab3 Pty Ltd is seeking a Principal Engineer-Cloud & DevOps to lead Azure platform delivery across engagements. You will design secure, scalable Azure solutions, implement IaC with Terraform, and manage AKS deployments with Helm. The role emphasizes mentoring, architecture guidance and collaboration with delivery leaders.

Based anywhere in Australia (Canberra preferred), with NV1 clearance and a flexible hybrid/remote work model. Permanent position preferred; contractors also considered.

Qualifications

• NV1 AGSVA security clearance required.
• Hands-on Azure IaaS and PaaS with a DevOps mindset.
• Experience with Terraform, ARM Templates and Bicep.
• CI/CD pipelines and source control experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
• Design, document and implement secure, scalable Azure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, with CI/CD pipelines.
• Provision and manage AKS environments, including deployments and Helm charts.
• Act as trusted technical advisor across multiple engagements.
• Translate complex concepts into recommendations for stakeholders and executives.
• Produce engineering artefacts including designs, runbooks, governance docs and change records.
• Partner with delivery leaders on estimation, planning and risk management.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring and capability uplift.

LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps &Integration, Security, andNetwork services.

We are looking fora Principal Engineer- Cloud & DevOps NV1 clearance, based anywhere in Australia (ideally in Canberra but open to other locations). We are open to permanent (preferred) and contractors (daily rate).

You will lead & deliver high-end technical solutions on a Microsoft Azure platform that meet and exceed client requirements.

The role

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
• Design, document and implement secure, scalable and reliable Azure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, supported by robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Provision and manage AKS environments, including application deployment, microservices configuration and Helm chart management.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor, providing architecture and design guidance across multiple engagements.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders and executives.
• Produce high-quality engineering artefacts including solution designs, runbooks, governance documentation and change records.
• Partner with delivery leaders on estimation, planning and risk management.
• Mentor engineers, support onboarding, contribute to hiring activities and help uplift engineering capability across the team.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for a motivated, proactive, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in their work, takes ownership and communicates well. You will be based anywhere in Australia (with Canberra as a preference) with an NV1 AGSVA security clearance.

• Azure IaaS and PaaS: Deep hands-on capability across the full Azure estate with a DevOps mindset
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, ARM Templates and Bicep
• Pipelines and source control: Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Bamboo & Jenkins
• HashiCorp tooling: Terraform and Vault for secrets and credential management
• Azure Networking, Security and Identity: cloud networking, security controls, Entra ID, RBAC and access design
• Cloud Automation: Python, Bash and PowerShell
• Azure Functions, Key Vault, Backups and Cloud Storage
• Azure Integration: Logic Apps, API Management and Microservices
• Cloud Identity, Governance, Licensing and Azure AD
