VenueSumo is seeking a senior hands-on engineer to design, build and lead features across our .NET backend, SQL Server, and web front ends, owning the Azure infrastructure. You will mentor engineers, work with Head of Engineering and CTO, and help modernise the platform to be resilient, secure and cost-efficient across three continents.
You will implement IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and maintain observability with Azure Monitor.
VenueSumo is the all-in-one POS, online ticketing and venue management platform for family entertainment centres, amusement parks and attractions. Venue operators run their whole business on us: bookings and ticketing, point of sale, waivers, memberships, CRM, payments, gift cards and more. We're an Australian-born SaaS scale-up growing fast across Australia, North America and the UK. We've just closed a growth equity round, and we're investing it in the team and the product. Our ambition is big: to make VenueSumo the leading AI-native operating system for leisure and attractions, where intelligent automation handles the busywork and operators spend their time on guests.
You’ll be one of the most senior hands‑on engineers at VenueSumo. You’ll build features end to end across our .NET backend, SQL Server data layer and web front end, and you’ll own the Microsoft Azure infrastructure they run on. As a technical lead, you’ll set the bar for code quality, lead the technical design of major features and integrations, and mentor the engineers around you. You’ll work closely with our Head of Engineering and CTO on architecture and on modernising the platform. You’ll also make our cloud platform resilient, secure, observable and cost‑efficient as we scale across three continents. Above all, we’re looking for a systems thinker and an innovative problem solver. You’ll use the best AI development tools every day, but AI is there to amplify great engineers, not to do the thinking for them. We want someone who understands problems deeply, sees how the pieces of a complex platform fit together, and designs solutions that last.
Design, build and ship features end to end: C#/.NET services and APIs, SQL Server, and modern web front ends
Own your work from first prototype to production, including testing, release and support
Work with Product to turn ideas into working prototypes in days, then harden them into production features
Take on the hardest technical problems: performance, data integrity, reporting and complex business logic
Fix customer-raised issues quickly and at the root cause, not just the symptom
Own the Azure environment our platform runs on: compute, databases, storage, networking, CDN and identity
Define infrastructure as code so every environment is repeatable and version controlled
Build and run CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) that let us ship small changes safely and often
Make the platform observable, with monitoring, logging, alerting and incident response using Azure Monitor and Application Insights
Lead on reliability, scalability, backup and disaster recovery, and on multi‑region readiness as we grow across Australia, North America and the UK
A systems architect's mindset. You think about how a whole platform fits together (data, services, integrations and infrastructure) and design for scale, resilience and change
A track record as an innovative problem solver: you break down complex, ambiguous problems, weigh the trade-offs and find elegant solutions
8+ years in software engineering, including time as a lead or senior engineer setting technical direction for a team
Proven hands‑on experience designing, building and running production infrastructure on Microsoft Azure
Infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
Solid knowledge of Azure networking, identity and security (virtual networks, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, managed identities), and monitoring with Azure Monitor and Application Insights
Experience with performance tuning, scaling, high availability and disaster recovery for a production SaaS platform
Experience designing APIs and integrations at scale, and modernising a mature codebase while it keeps serving customers
Deep, current hands‑on use of AI coding tools, paired with the judgement to know where AI helps and where careful thinking matters more
A senior, hands‑on lead role in a freshly funded, fast‑growing SaaS business
Real influence over our architecture, our infrastructure and how we build the leading AI‑native operating system for leisure and attractions
A generous budget for the best AI tools. No waiting for approval to try what's new
A Gold Coast office at Mermaid Beach, or remote from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand
A small team of highly talented senior developers who ship fast and work close to the venues that use our software every day
