Job summary

Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) invites applications for a senior supervisory role in its frontline supervision team. Australian Prudential Regulation Authority – Brisbane QLD

• Develop supervisory skills to support high-quality analysis & risk assessment
• Based in our Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne offices
• Play a primary role in the prudential supervision of a group of banks

The role

As a senior member of APRA's frontline supervision team, you will play a primary role in the prudential supervision of a group of banks. You will perform associated risk assessment and response activities in order to achieve the government and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system.

In this role you will collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including risk specialists and policy and advice division. You will engage externally with regulated entities, industry associations, other regulatory agencies and government departments.

The team

The General Insurance and Banking Division is responsible for the supervision of all general insurers and authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs). The Division supports APRA's core function through prudential supervision and risk assessment activities to support the government and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system. The Division's strategic focus is to improve outcomes for banking and general insurance customers.

Key responsibilities

• Identify risks and analyse internal structures and critical developments that may lead to serious concerns for supervised organisations; raise and respond to these matters before they manifest;
• Assess the quality of supervised organisations' management, strategies, practices and systems and influence changes required;
• Maintain and share up to date and relevant knowledge across the supervision teams regarding market issues that may impact on supervised organisations, including financial and non-financial risk areas;
• Coach and mentor the team to support the development of financial analysis, risk assessment and other supervisory capabilities in an evolving environment;
• Adapt the style and process of supervision depending on the supervised organisations' risk and complexity and be flexible to apply different approaches; and
• Utilise prioritisation and operational skills to oversee a range of diverse activities.

• Demonstrated ability to translate strategic priorities into effective programs, projects and measurable outcomes;
• Proven ability to coach and mentor teams to build capability in analysis and risk assessment;
• Strong judgement, analytical capability and investigation and research capabilities to identify and respond to existing or emerging problems;
• Strong stakeholder management skills, ability to influence, negotiate and work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
• Well-developed verbal and written communication, negotiation, organisational, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills;
• Knowledge and understanding of the APRA mission, objectives, functions, processes and systems;
• Maintain up to date with financial market trends and the legislative environment; and
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
