Job summary

Auto & General is hiring a Natural Perils & Geospatial Analyst to support the Home pricing team with data-driven analysis and insights for natural peril and geospatial pricing strategies.

Qualifications

• Desirable academic backgrounds include actuarial science, data science, geospatial, environmental science, or other analytics backgrounds.
• Typically 1–2 years of experience in data analysis, preferably within an insurance or financial services environment.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient programming skills (e.g. SQL, BigQuery, Python, R).
• Experience with geospatial software (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Positive attitude with enthusiasm to learn and adapt.

The Role

The Natural Perils & Geospatial Analyst will support the Home pricing team and company by performing robust, accurate and timely data-driven analysis and providing insights to contribute to the development of natural peril and geospatial pricing strategies. This technical role supports the pricing and underwriting of our insurance products through data analysis, validation, and research of innovative data and methods to price and manage insurance risks

Position Accountabilities

To perform tasks efficiently, thoroughly, with due care, and with limited supervision. This includes:

• Understanding sources of data, its limitations and common uses within the team.
• Managing and manipulating large and complex datasets.
• Conducting independent technical analysis, drawing insights, and providing recommendations on next steps to stakeholders.
• Contributing to the build, implementation, and maintenance of address and natural peril datasets, with a strong focus on data validation and quality assurance.
• Performing technical and geospatial analysis to identify and resolve complex issues with limited guidance.
• Assisting with the implementation of rating changes to the live pricing system, including testing and post-live monitoring.
• Supporting the development of future enhancements in geospatial analysis techniques, systems, and processes.
• Collaborating on solutions for wider distribution of natural peril and geospatial datasets
• Supporting the wider business with technical queries related to pricing and natural peril risk.
• Assisting in the preparation of papers and presentations to communicate results and insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Perform other reasonable and relevant activities as requested to meet operational requirements.
