Job summary

The University of Sydney is seeking a Technical Officer (Preclinical Imaging) to provide technical and operational support for preclinical imaging research at Sydney Imaging, a Core Research Facility. You will work with researchers, students and staff to deliver high-quality imaging services and manage day-to-day operations.

Key duties include training users, operating PET, MRI, ultrasound, optical imaging, microCT, DXA and EchoMRI, assisting with studies, data analysis and reporting, and

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience, in biomedical science, laboratory science, medical imaging or a related field.
  • Experience working in a research, laboratory or imaging environment.
  • Knowledge of one or more preclinical imaging modalities such as PET, MRI, Ultrasound, Optical Imaging, microCT, DXA or EchoMRI.
  • Experience in image and data analysis, including technical report preparation is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, including handling hazardous substances.
  • Experience with laboratory procedures, equipment maintenance and animal handling/in vivo studies.
  • Strong communication, organisational, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercising sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Experience supporting research projects, experimental design, ethics/grant applications, publications or reporting will be highly regarded.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in preclinical imaging and laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and training for users of preclinical imaging facilities.
  • Operate and support imaging systems including PET, MRI, Ultrasound, Optical Imaging, microCT, DXA and EchoMRI.
  • Assist with imaging studies, data analysis and reporting.
  • Support animal handling and in vivo procedures in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Maintain imaging equipment, laboratory resources and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, animal welfare and University policies.
