Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities in Australia is seeking a qualified Project Engineer to join our Power Systems team, delivering complex substation and transmission projects. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will apply your engineering expertise to planning, scheduling, and technical delivery across all project phases.

You will work with site teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure safe, on-time performance, maintain quality standards, and provide mentoring to junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering; 4+ years project engineering in infrastructure/utilities.
• Proven ability to manage subcontractors & delivery teams.
• Strong scheduling, forecasting, cost management and reporting skills.
• Experience with change management and ensuring quality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
• Transmission industry experience highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Support safe project execution with risk assessments and safety leadership.
• Coordinate site activities, design reviews, program delivery and stakeholder engagement.
• Manage subcontractors and self-perform crews to meet scope, budget, and schedule.
• Prepare construction methodologies, lift plans, and constructability reviews.
• Monitor schedules, perform critical path analysis, and support forecasting.
• Drive quality outcomes through quality management systems and procurement compliance.
• Support commercial activities including change management and variations.
• Build strong relationships and mentor developing engineers.
