About the Role

We are seeking a mid-career level Power Systems professional to join Iberdrola and the VNI West Project team.

Based in the Melbourne CBD, reporting to the Senior Power Systems Planning Engineer, this role will be responsible for power system studies, evaluating risks associated with grid connection and feasibility studies. You will work on power system modelling, compliance, and assist technical negotiations with AEMO and NSPs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform power system studies under guidance, including load flow, fault level, and basic voltage stability assessments.
  • Develop and maintain power system models using tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, or PowerFactory.
  • Assist in analysing system strength, voltage performance, and network constraints for renewable energy projects.
  • Contribute to preparation of technical reports, study notes, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support engagement with AEMO, Network Service Providers (NSPs), and consultants by preparing inputs and responding to technical queries.
  • Assist project teams during development and commissioning phases by providing power system analysis support.
  • Identify and elevate technical risks and modelling issues to senior engineers.
  • Contribute to improving modelling workflows, including use of Python or other automation tools where applicable.
  • Maintain organised study files, assumptions, and model versions to ensure traceability and quality of analysis.
Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualification (ideally in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Systems Engineering).
  • Proven experience in modelling power systems within renewable energy projects in the NEM, with a focus on high-voltage transmission lines.
  • Good knowledge of electrical power system modelling and analysis tools (such as PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory and Python).
  • Demonstrated success in working with international project teams in diverse and often complex working environments.
  • Good understanding of the National Electricity Rules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
