Job summary

UGL is recruiting a Power Systems Lead for the Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail Project in Australia. You will drive delivery of HV power systems and substations, liaise with designers, construction, operations and client stakeholders, and provide technical leadership across the project lifecycle.

You will manage risks, ensure compliance with industry standards, and mentor the team to achieve objectives while fostering an inclusive work environment.

Qualifications

• Recognised engineering degree or relevant tertiary qualification.
• Member of Engineers Australia (IEAust) or IPENZ desirable.
• Rail Industry Worker competencies.
• Experience delivering HV substations and power systems on major projects.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholders.
• Experience with SHEQ standards and budgets.
• Experience with risk and cost management plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, delivery and integration of HV power and substation works across the project lifecycle.
• Manage engineering interfaces between designers, construction teams, operations and client stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership on power systems, substations and associated infrastructure.
• Manage technical risks and ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Organise, design and implement temporary works and infrastructure as required.
• Prepare work packages, documentation and quality requirements for tendering subcontractors.
• Evaluate subcontractors to ensure capacity and capability to carry out the work.
• Inform Project Manager of significant SH&E, quality or other difficulties impacting delivery and taking corrective action.
• Guide and instruct others in essential quality management aspects.
• Assist in preparing project budgets and cost to complete and progress claims.
• Establish regular reports on technical, systems and productivity performances.
• Ensure effective handover of all site works per procedures and plans.
• Provide coaching and training opportunities to team members.
• Lead and educate subcontractors to maintain an inclusive, discrimination-free environment.
• Align team capability with function’s business objectives.

The Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGCFR) Project is seeking an experienced Power Systems Lead to drive the successful delivery of critical electrical infrastructure. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide technical and delivery leadership across high voltage power systems, substations and associated rail infrastructure. Candidates from rail, utilities, transmission, distribution, renewable energy and major infrastructure sectors are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, delivery and integration of HV power and substation works across the project lifecycle.
• Manage engineering interfaces between designers, construction teams, operations and client stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership on power systems, substations and associated infrastructure.
• Manage technical risks and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and project requirements.
• Organising, designing and implementing temporary works and infrastructure, as required
• Preparing work packages, documentation and quality requirements for tender by potential subcontractors
• Evaluating subcontractors to ensure capacity and capability to carry out the work
• Informing the Project Manager on any significant SH&E, quality or other difficulties which will impact Project delivery or community relations and taking appropriate action to rectify
• Guiding and instructing others in essential aspects of quality management
• Assist in the preparation of project budgets and cost to complete and processing of subcontractor and supplier progress claims.
• Establishing regular reports on technical, systems and productivity performances to the Project Manager
• Ensure the effective management and handover of all site works, in accordance with documented procedures, programs, project plans, drawings and specifications.
• Provide coaching and create training opportunities to foster professional growth while ensuring the team remains aligned with project objectives
• Lead, demonstrate and educate subcontractors to embrace a work environment free from discrimination, where everyone is included and treated with respect.
• Developing alignment between team capability and function’s business objectives

About You

• Either a recognised degree in engineering discipline recognised OR other relevant tertiary qualification
• Member of Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust)or graduate member of the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) desirable
• Relevant Rail Industry Worker competencies
• Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer, Engineering Manager or Technical Lead delivering HV substations, power systems, utilities or major infrastructure projects. Experience in rail traction power will be highly regarded but is not essential.
• Experience delivering projects involving HV assets, substations, distribution networks, renewable energy or industrial power systems.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholders and drive project outcomes within complex project environments.
• Proven experience in managing engineering deliverables, coordinating with stakeholders and driving project outcomes
• Experience managing people and processes to ensure compliance with relevant Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) standards
• Strong commercial acumen and experience with managing budgets. Competent in developing and implementing risk treatment plans and cost management plans.
