Job summary

About the area

The Australian Centre for RNA Therapeutics in Cancer (ACRTC) is a nationally significant RNA innovation hub dedicated to translating breakthrough RNA science into real treatments for aggressive cancers. Hosted by The University of Western Australia, the Centre unites RNA technologists, oncologists, computational biologists, AI and machine learning specialists, patient advocates and industry partners to solve some of the most challenging problems in cancer therapeutics.

This position forms part of the RNA Optimisation for Biological Utility and Stability (ROBUST) program, a major five-year research initiative developing next-generation developing next-generation technologies to design mRNA with enhanced stability and therapeutic performance.

The role offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with world leaders in RNA computation, RNA structure, cell biology and AI through scientific advisory networks, international collaborations and industry partnerships. With clearly defined clinical use cases embedded within the program, your discoveries will have a direct pathway from fundamental research to translational and clinical impact.

About the opportunity
  • Establish and apply advanced methodologies including CryoEM-based structural analysis, proteomics and mass spectrometry workflows to investigate therapeutic mRNA behaviour, function and intracellular processing.
  • Access a globally unique RNA dataset and contribute to innovative research leading to high-impact publications, translational outcomes and intellectual property development.
  • Work within a vibrant, collaborative and highly productive research team operating at the intersection of RNA biology, structural biology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and cancer therapeutics.
About you
  • PhD in molecular biology, chemistry, nanotechnology, structural biology or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated research track record through peer-reviewed publications and experience in one or more relevant areas such as RNA biology, RNA-protein interactions, structural biology, CryoEM, proteomics, nanotechnology or nucleic acid-based systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in experimental design, data interpretation and the application of molecular biology or biochemical approaches to complex biological questions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working effectively across multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders.
  • Interest in translating research into real-world impact, including intellectual property development, commercialisation pathways or therapeutic innovation.
