Job description
Positions Vacant – Members of the Board, National Capital Authority

Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified candidates to fill upcoming vacancies on the Board of the National Capital Authority (NCA). These roles are part-time statutory appointments for up to 5 years.

The NCA plays a vital role in shaping the planning and development of Canberra as the nation’s capital, ensuring it continues to reflect Australia's national significance. These appointments offer a unique opportunity for individuals with demonstrated leadership, governance experience, and a strong commitment to public service to contribute to the stewardship of the capital’s future.

The NCA is currently seeking new Members of the Board to provide strong strategic leadership, oversight and direction in fulfilling the NCA’s statutory functions under the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988 (the PALM Act) and the Authority Charter. Board Members will ensure National Capital Plan and related policies are administered effectively and reviewed regularly, and that the Board monitors performance and compliance across the organisation.

The Government encourages individuals with diverse backgrounds and exemplary leadership experiences, particularly those with expertise and relevant qualifications in urban planning, architecture, heritage, public administration, or community engagement to put themselves forward for these roles. This will ensure continuity, proficiency and depth of experience on one of the Government’s most important boards.
