Job summary

BlueScope Steel in Port Kembla is seeking a Portfolio Leader – Resilient Solutions to drive a multi-year portfolio of housing resilience initiatives, aligning climate insights, customer needs and policy developments with practical, scalable building solutions.

You will lead collaboration across BlueScope, customers, industry partners and government stakeholders, translating research into guidance and standards that strengthen resilient roofing and walling systems for Australian homes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, building science, architectural science, or related discipline.
• Experience leading work programs and coordinating cross-functional or multi-organisation initiatives.
• Ability to work across technical, commercial, policy and customer environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement with customers, industry bodies, regulators and researchers.

• Develop and lead a prioritised portfolio of resilient housing initiatives, setting focus areas and a multi-year roadmap for delivery.
• Translate climate resilience trends, industry insights, customer needs and policy developments into practical priorities for COLORBOND roofing and steel building systems.
• Lead collaboration across BlueScope, customers, industry partners, research organisations and government stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities and practical solutions that support resilient reroofing, retrofitting and maintenance of Australian homes.
• Shape policy, standards, codes of practice and industry guidance supporting resilient steel roofing and walling solutions.
• Lead technical, testing and research programs that strengthen the evidence base for resilient steel building systems.

The Opportunity

Our Building Applications Team is looking for a Portfolio Leader – Resilient Solutions to join them at our Port Kembla site. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

In this influential role, you will lead a portfolio of initiatives focused on positioning COLORBOND® roofing and associated steel building systems as practical and scalable solutions for more resilient housing. Working across BlueScope, our customers and the wider industry, you’ll turn emerging challenges into tangible programs, guidance and market solutions. You’ll build strong partnerships across the steel roofing industry and work with customers, insurers, researchers, government, standards bodies and other industry stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in an emerging area for the Australian building industry, bringing together research, industry knowledge and customer needs to help shape practical and scalable resilient housing solutions.

What Will You Do?

Drawing on your ability to connect technical, commercial and industry perspectives, you will:

• develop and lead a prioritised portfolio of resilient housing initiatives, setting focus areas and a multi-year roadmap for delivery
• translate climate resilience trends, industry insights, customer needs and policy developments into practical priorities for COLORBOND® roofing and steel building systems
• lead collaboration across BlueScope, customers, industry partners, research organisations and government stakeholders
• identify opportunities and practical solutions that support resilient reroofing, retrofitting and maintenance of Australian homes
• shape policy, standards, codes of practice and industry guidance supporting resilient steel roofing and walling solutions
• lead technical, testing and research programs that strengthen the evidence base for resilient steel building systems
• develop practical guidance and pathways that help improve specification confidence, installation quality and industry adoption

More About You

You’ll bring a strong combination of strategic thinking, technical credibility and stakeholder leadership, with the ability to bring people together and turn complex or emerging issues into practical outcomes.

You’ll have:

• tertiary qualifications in engineering, building science, architectural science, science or another relevant discipline
• experience leading work programs and coordinating cross-functional or multi-organisation initiatives
• the ability to work effectively across technical, commercial, policy and customer environments
• strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the credibility to work with customers, industry bodies, regulators, researchers and senior stakeholders

well-developed analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical and policy complexity into clear strategies, guidance and delivery plans.
