Job summary

Randstad is seeking an experienced EL1 Assistant Director (Policy & Legal) to join a key Australian Government department. You will provide high-level policy, legislative, and regulatory advice to support legislative reform, lead complex policy analysis, and build strong relationships across government and sector stakeholders to support core regulatory functions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in leading legislative development, policy analysis, and regulatory reform.
• Exceptional ability to draft high-level executive papers, ministerial briefs, policy submissions, and consultation materials.
• Proven track record of building and managing productive relationships across cross-agency and external sector environments.
• Capability to manage complex reform projects, monitor milestones, manage risk, and deliver within tight timeframes.
• Active Baseline Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, review, and reform of key legislation, regulations, and policy frameworks.
• Provide high-level policy, legislative, and regulatory advice on regulatory issues.
• Prepare briefs, submissions, Cabinet materials, and executive papers.
• Develop consultation strategies and lead engagement with agencies and stakeholders.
• Manage policy projects, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Support governance processes for legislative reforms.
