Job summary

Brisbane City Council is seeking an experienced Plumbing Officer for a temporary full-time, hybrid role at the South Regional Business Centre (Yeerongpilly). You will inspect sanitary plumbing, water supply and drainage, issue permits, maintain compliance records and provide technical guidance to customers.

The position emphasises field inspections (about 80%), reporting, and issuing action notices to ensure adherence to legislation.

Qualifications

• Previous plumbing and drainage experience.
• Experience applying plumbing and drainage legislation in commercial and domestic environments is highly regarded.
• Strong problem-solving and practical solution skills.
• Ability to build relationships and make informed decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in using computer systems and software packages.
• Willingness to participate in cross-training to expand skills.
• Valid Queensland Plumber and Drainer License is a must.
• Class C Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of plumbing and drainage installations on private and government properties.
• Issue permits and maintain compliance records.
• Provide technical advice to customers and council staff.
• Prepare inspection reports and issue action notices when needed.
• Issue inspection certificates and communicate defects clearly.
• Perform substantial fieldwork (approximately 80%) and maintain strong customer relations.
