TechnologyOne is seeking a Platform Architect to lead the architecture and design of a large-scale platform underpinning mission-critical SaaS services. You will guide containerised compute, define target-state architectures, and drive platform modernization across automation, storage, and delivery.

You will work with service teams to adopt platform patterns, ensure reliability and observability by design, and partner with SRE and delivery groups to shape the technical direction.

Qualifications

Experience running Kubernetes in production at scale.
Track record of driving cost down through architecture and data-driven decisions.
Experience designing and running a platform used by multiple engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Lead the architecture and design of the platform, encompassing infrastructure, deployment, automation, and reliability at scale.
Define target-state architectures and migration patterns for containerised compute.
Analyse platform usage and drive efficiency while reducing cost of operations.
Modernise automation and platforms, shaping roadmaps and architectures.
Define reference architectures and patterns for secure, reliable cloud-native delivery.
Guide service teams to adopt platforms and patterns with architectural direction.
Collaborate with SRE and delivery teams to embed reliability and observability by design.
Evaluate new tooling and approaches to keep architecture current.
Act as trusted advisor on platform strategy and trade-offs to engineering leadership.
Mentor engineers to raise architectural capability across teams.
Stay close to detail, prototyping to de-risk decisions and troubleshoot hard problems.

Platform Architect

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Platform Architect to help lead the architecture and design of that platform.

This is a role for an engineer who genuinely loves infrastructure, deployment, automation, and reliability and wants to shape it at a very large scale. You'll work within the Platform Architecture team and lead the design of the systems that power how we build, deploy, and run software across our entire estate. With major programs underway to modernise our automation and storage and to move all of our services onto Kubernetes, this is a rare opportunity to set the technical direction for a transformation of real magnitude.

You'll work alongside other architects to define the vision and then partner closely with service teams - guiding, coaching, and helping them adopt the patterns, platforms, and practices that make reliable, cloud-native delivery the default.

What you’ll be doing...

Lead the architecture and design of our platform - spanning infrastructure, deployment, automation, and reliability - at a scale few organisations operate at.
Set the technical direction for our move to modern containerised compute, defining target-state architectures, migration patterns, and golden paths for service teams follow.
Apply architectural approaches, techniques and thinking to analyse and control consumption, improve efficiency - leading to reduced cost of operations.
Drive the modernisation of our automation and our platforms, shaping the roadmap and the architectures that support and guide it.
Define reference architectures and design patterns that make secure, reliable, cloud-native delivery the path of least resistance.
Guide and assist service teams as they adopt the platform - providing architectural direction, reviewing designs, and helping them modernise their services.
Partner with SRE and delivery teams to ensure reliability, observability, and operational readiness are designed in from the start, not bolted on.
Evaluate and recommend new tooling, platforms, and approaches, keeping our architecture modern, efficient, and aligned with industry best practice.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering leadership on platform strategy, modernisation roadmaps, and the architectural trade-offs behind them.
Mentor and lift the capability of engineers across service and platform teams, championing strong architecture and engineering practice across the organisation.
Stay close to the detail - validating designs against real systems, prototyping to de-risk decisions, and troubleshooting the hard problems.

Your Talents...

Working in a team of architects, knowledge, skill and experience in a range of the following is required:

Kubernetes at scale - deep, hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production, including cluster architecture, networking, storage, scaling, and upgrades, and a clear understanding of the patterns for migrating and operating services on it.
Cost and efficiency at scale - a track record of driving down operating costs through architecture: monitoring and analysing platform usage, identifying inefficiency, and designing the changes that address it. Skilled at using data analysis (e.g. Databricks) to ground those decisions in evidence.
Platform Engineering - proven experience designing and running a platform that other engineering teams build on, with the reliability, observability, and self-service capabilities that make it work at scale.
Running SaaS in production - first-hand experience operating SaaS at scale, with a strong grasp of what it takes to keep large, multi-tenant, mission-critical services reliable, secure, and continuously delivered.
Automation and infrastructure-as-code - strong background automating infrastructure and delivery with tools such as Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines; experience with a major cloud platform (AWS helpful but not required) is an advantage.
Architecture and influence - a track record of defining platform architecture, reference designs, and standards, and successfully guiding service teams to adopt them without relying on direct authority.
Pragmatic engineering judgement - able to balance architectural ideals with delivery realities, stay close enough to the detail to make decisions that hold up in production, and lift the capability of the engineers around you.
Extensive experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS preferred), including its core services and architectural patterns.
Strong communication and influencing skills - able to set direction and bring teams with you without relying on direct authority.
