Job summary

Swan Hill Rural City Council is seeking a Planning Team Leader to lead our Planning Team and guide growth and development for the municipality. This on-site, permanent full-time role combines leadership with expert planning advice and oversight of complex applications.

You will manage a small team, mentor staff, and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver positive planning outcomes for the community.

Qualifications

  • Five years' experience in planning and statutory planning is expected.
  • Leadership experience including mentoring staff is required.
  • Knowledge of Victorian planning legislation and processes is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Planning Team in assessing permits and development proposals.
  • Provide planning advice to residents, developers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for Council and senior management.
  • Represent Council at community meetings, Planning Panels and VCAT.
  • Contribute to planning scheme amendments and policy development.

What you will be doing
  • Lead andsupport a team of planning professionals.
  • Oversee the assessmentof planning permit applications and development proposals.
  • Provideplanning advice to residents, developers, Councillors and internalstakeholders.
  • Prepare reportsand recommendations for Council and senior management.
  • RepresentCouncil at community meetings, Planning Panels and VCAT.
  • Contribute toplanning scheme amendments and policy development.
  • Identifyopportunities to improve planning processes and service delivery.
About you

You are a confident and approachable plannerwho enjoys working with people and finding practical solutions.

You will bring:

  • Qualificationsin Urban and/or Regional Planning or equivalent with five years relevantexperience.
  • Strongexperience in statutory planning.
  • Soundknowledge of Victorian planning legislation and processes.
  • Leadershipexperience, including mentoring and supporting staff.
  • Excellentcommunication and relationship-building skills.
  • The abilityto manage competing priorities and make sound decisions.
  • A currentVictorian Driver Licence.

A National Police Check will be conducted onthe preferred applicant.
