Job description

We are a friendly well-established GP surgery seeking a qualified and experienced Phlebotomist to join our Nursing team. The successful candidate will provide a high-quality phlebotomy service, carrying out blood tests efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the role include:

  • Working four mornings a week
  • Managing 10 minute appointment blood tests efficiently and accurately ( if you are very skilled and can deliver these in 7.5 minutes you will be paid at a higher rate)
  • If you wish to develop your skills further, there will be opportunities to train in additional procedures such as NHS health checks.
  • Ensuring correct patient identification and sample labelling
  • Maintaining infection control and health and safety standards
  • Preparing and handling blood samples for collection
  • Providing a calm, professional service and putting patients at ease

Our two site friendly practice is very patient-focused, with one site located in the city centre of Cambridge, and our branch site in the nearby village of Trumpington. We are committed to delivering high-quality primary care services to the university students and our local community.

We are a well established team comprising of 5 Partners, 10 Salaried GP's, Practice Nurses, HCA's, Clinical Pharmacists, Social Prescribers and administration staff.

As part of a Primary Care Network we work very closely with our PCN team to improve patient outcomes and share resources.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a qualified Phlebotomist to work 4 mornings a week from 8.00am-1.00pm or similar.

The successful candidate will be responsible for running and managing their own phlebotomy clinic, delivering an efficient, high-quality blood-taking service to patients within the GP surgery.

The role requires working independently to 7.5 or 10 minute appointment slots, ensuring safe practice and excellent patient care at all times.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Proven experience working as a qualified phlebotomist.
  • Confident performing venepuncture on a wide range of patients (including elderly, anxious, or those with difficult veins).
  • Experience working independently, managing own workload and clinic flow.
  • Ability to work efficiently to deliver 7.5 - 10 minute appointment times.
  • Experience following infection control, health & safety, and confidentiality procedures.
  • Accurate sample labelling and handling.
  • Previous experience in a GP surgery, primary care, or NHS setting.
  • Experience using clinical system System One .
  • Experience managing high-volume blood clinics.
  • Familiarity with local pathology collection processes.
