Boost your Income

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn at least $236/day tax‑free.

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

For this role, you must:

• Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
• If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
• Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we’ll give you tips to help you prepare
• Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance

For the specific roles, you must:

• Carpenter: Be a qualified Carpenter. The minimum standard for entry is a Certificate III in Carpentry and demonstrated current work experience
• Electrical Technician: Bea qualified Electrical Technician having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised institution, as well the full‑time employment requirement for that trade
• Electrician: Be a qualified Electrician, having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised Australian institution, as well as the full‑time employment requirement for that trade
• Metalsmith: Be a qualified Welder 1st Class, Boilermaker Marker Off, Boilermaker Welder or Sheet Metal Worker having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised institution as well as the full‑time employment requirement for that trade
• Plumber: Be a qualified Plumber, having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised institution, as well as the full‑time employment requirement for that trade.
