Job summary

GWP Grant Wood Painting Pty Ltd in Newcastle NSW is seeking a skilled Painter & Decorator to join our team on a full-time basis. You will deliver high-quality interior and exterior painting across residential and commercial projects, with focus on surface preparation and decorative finishes.

You will work independently and with a team, maintain safety standards, and communicate with clients to understand requirements.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications or apprenticeship in painting and decorating.
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a painter and decorator in residential and/or commercial settings.
• Proven expertise in surface preparation, interior and exterior painting techniques.
• Knowledge of decorative finishes, wallpapering and specialised coating applications.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality workmanship.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate professionally with clients.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport to travel between job sites.
• Current Working With Children Check or willingness to obtain one if required.
• Physical fitness and ability to work at heights using appropriate safety equipment.
• Health and Safety awareness and commitment to following safe working practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Preparing surfaces including sanding, cleaning and priming to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality.
• Applying paint, varnish and other decorative finishes using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Undertaking interior and exterior painting work on residential and commercial properties.
• Installing wallpaper, wall coverings and other decorative materials.
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, complying with health and safety regulations.
• Operating and maintaining painting equipment and tools in good working condition.
• Communicating effectively with customers to understand their requirements and ensure satisfaction.
• Working collaboratively with team members to complete projects on schedule and to specification.
• Conducting quality checks to ensure work meets company standards and customer expectations.
