Job summary

Nestlé Australia Ltd. is seeking a Packaging Systems Engineer for the Wahgunyah Factory in Northeast Victoria. This role leads packaging/processing technical knowledge across manufacturing to maximize volume and minimize cost with quality focus.

The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and mentor factory staff while ensuring alignment with Australian food regulations. Full-time permanent role with established benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Science/Engineering/other technical discipline.
• 3+ years Food Industry / Manufacturing experience.
• Experience with producing & packaging, preferably cereals.
• Knowledge of process development, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
• Project management experience desirable in continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and influencing skills.
• Ability to lead and train factory personnel.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to improve productivity of existing systems using DMAIC/SMED.
• Develop system capacity and conduct capability studies for optimal production rates.
• Participate in TPM Focused Improvement pillar.
• Improve system reliability and product quality with Maintenance/Quality teams.
• Serve as R&D liaison for testing and evaluating new equipment/products.
• Provide operating parameters and process ranges.
• Develop and deliver technical training for manufacturing personnel.

An opportunity currently exists for a Packaging Systems Engineer to join the Manufacturing Excellence Team based in our Wahgunyah Factory, the home of Uncle Toby’s Snacks and Cereals.

Serving as the primary technical resource for manufacturing knowledge on packaging and/or processing equipment, this role will provide technical leadership in the entire manufacturing / packaging process, in order to produce the maximum volume of high-quality product at the lowest cost and in the shortest time.

• Degree in Food Science/Engineering/other technical discipline.
• 3+ years Food Industry / Manufacturing, Engineering, factory design and related experience.
• Operative experience in producing & packaging, preferably in cereal breakfast products.
• Solid understanding of process development, engineering, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
• Project Management Experience (desirable in continuous improvement field).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement and problem-solving tools.
• Ability to provide strong leadership and technical training to factory personnel
• Previous experience and familiarity working with SAP preferred.
• Enjoy working within cross-functional teams in a dynamic work environment.
• A working understanding of Australian Food Regulations is beneficial.

A day in the life…

Reporting to the Manufacturing Excellence Manager and driving strategic productivity and capacity solutions, key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Identify opportunities to improve the productivity of existing systems using structured problem-solving tools such as DMAIC and SMED.
• Develop and maintain system capacity and conduct capability studies to ensure optimal production rates and parameters.
• Actively participate in the Focused Improvement (FI) pillar for TPM.
• Improve system reliability and product quality (in conjunction with Maintenance and Quality team) as well as identifying productivity improvements including new technologies.
• Serve as R&D liaison for testing, monitoring, and evaluating new equipment and new products.
• Provide operating parameters (basic conditions) and ranges (flow rates, speeds, etc.)
• Develop, prepare, and deliver technical training to manufacturing personnel in order to increase their operational and technical capabilities.
