Job summary

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Heal is looking for an Overnight Support Worker to assist residents at their housing facility in Brisbane. You will be responsible for addressing safety concerns and maintaining detailed case notes for each resident.

The ideal candidate has a background in social work or similar fields, along with knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. You will support families, implement safety plans, and engage positively with residents to foster a community-based environment.

This is a casual position with an hourly pay rate of $37.97 plus additional casual loading and superannuation.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with children and family issues.
• Ability to work sensitively with women and children.
• Knowledge of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the ATSICHS Housingservice(NgumpieUruue)deliversa range of housingsupportsto Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. One service is the Mari-Mari-Ba crisis accommodation facility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. The centre hosts 33 self-contained units in one location. The Overnight Support Workerresponds to resident crisis and managesthe needs and supports ofresident’safter-hours. The rolehas aself-contained unit (andbed)for all shifts, andoperatesunder an on-callarrangement, responding when residentsrequireassistanceor support.

Duties

• Effectively responds to safety concerns of residents in a prompt and respectful manner,in accordance withATSICHS policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate notes to ensure a smooth and informed handover to daytime staff, compile detailed reports on nightly activities and any irregularities, and liaise with relevant external parties such as police, other hostels, and homeless shelters as necessary to support client needs and service coordination.
• Providetimelyand professional responses toresident requestsin accordance withorganisational policies and procedures. Be readily available throughout the shift to support residents, engage with new arrivals toestablishrapport and a sense of safety,maintainregular contact with existing residents to build positive relationships, and actively contribute to program development activities.
• Develop a ‘Client Safety Plan’ together, ensuring clear actions aredocumented and approved by line-Manager. Ensure at a minimum Safety Plans are completed inallinstances of domestic and family violence, self-harm/mental health,andchild abuse.
• Maintainaccurateand detailed case notes of all client interactions, ensuring case notes are written from the perspective of clients in their voice.
• Contributeassistancewith administrative tasks as directed by the Housing Manager/Team Leader.
• As perMOBnetPerformance module,participatein monthly prescheduled supervision with direct line Manager. Ensure Supervision tasks are the priority in work completion. Ensure all associated monthly supervision tasks inMOBnetare completed (two-way feedback, team culture score etc).

Desired Skills and Experience

Required

Current CertlllorlVor equivalent in SocialWork,HumanServices,Childand Family, Allied Health, YouthWork,Childand Family Intervention, preferred or extensive experience with sound Knowledge and skills in working with children and family issues.

OR

• 2 years of relevant experience in social services field.

AND

Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures, and a general understanding of the issues that are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society.

Experience in managing complex situations is sought after.

Demonstrated experience in working sensitively with women and children.

Demonstrated ability in responding to family crisis.

Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and deescalate volatile situations.

Ability to support and manage a continuous improvement model for achieving improved ways of working at JWH.

Decisive listening, influencingand persuasive skills.

Additional Requirements

• National Police Certificate.
• Current Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or be eligible toapply.
• Driver's Licence.
• Evidence of Work Rights.
