Job summary

Newmont Tanami is seeking a Fixed Plant Control Room Operator to ensure the safe, efficient operation of fixed plant systems such as materials handling, winders, dewatering and ventilation. From the control room you will monitor real-time asset performance, coordinate between surface and underground teams, and support production continuity.

This FIFO role requires calm under pressure, clear communication, and the ability to identify and resolve issues before they impact operations while working

Qualifications

• Trade qualification preferred in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
• Experience in a mining control room or operations environment.
• Familiar with SCADA, HMI and CMMS systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor real-time asset performance and respond to issues to minimise downtime.
• Maintain accurate operational records for reporting and compliance.
• Act as central communication link between surface and underground teams.

Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located onsite offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

This is a site-based role at Tanami Operations in the Northern Territory, working in a challenging remote environment. You will interface daily with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and project stakeholders.

The role involves a FIFO schedule with 14/14 or 8/6 opportunities available. Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.

Who we're looking for!

As a Fixed Plant Control Room Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of fixed plant systems, such as Materials handling, winders, dewatering, ventilation. Working from the control room, you will monitor and coordinate asset performance in real time, supporting production continuity, asset integrity and statutory compliance. This is a role for someone who remains calm under pressure, communicates clearly across teams, and takes a proactive approach to identify and resolve issues before they impact operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitoring real-time asset performance, responding to equipment issues, delays or deviations and escalating where required to minimise downtime and maintain production continuity.
• Maintaining accurate operational records, including shaft activities, delays and maintenance data, ensuring integrity for reporting and compliance purposes.
• Acting as the central communication link between surface and underground teams, ensuring clear, timely and accurate information flow.
• Supporting emergency response coordination from the control room, following site protocols and maintaining effective communication with field teams.
• Collaborating with operations, maintenance and planning teams to support scheduling, shift handovers and daily execution aligned to production targets.

Capabilities Required

• Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification (preferred).
• Demonstrated experience in a mining control room environment, with exposure to material handling systems and shaft operations (ABB winders advantageous).
• Strong systems capability, including experience with SCADA (Citect), HMI, Minestar, PI Vision and CMMS systems such as SAP.
• Demonstrated underground mining experience, with an understanding of fixed plant and material handling infrastructure.
• Strong organisational, communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise, collaborate and perform under pressure.
