Job summary

Byron Shire Council is seeking an experienced Open Space Technical Officer to shape and enhance parks, reserves and natural spaces across the Shire. You will provide specialist technical advice, coordinate improvement projects and support sustainable community spaces.

This varied role combines technical expertise, project management and stakeholder engagement, working with operators, contractors and community groups to deliver practical solutions for long-term park management.

Qualifications

• Qualifications or demonstrated experience in horticulture, arboriculture, landscape management or related discipline.
• Proven project management experience with budgeting and contractor coordination.
• Strong leadership and team development abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and customer service.
• Current Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise across horticulture, arboriculture, sports turf, bush regeneration and bushfire management activities.
• Coordinate open space improvement projects within budget and safety standards.
• Support Bush Regeneration team and guide Open Space team.
• Assess and respond to tree, pest, weed and bushfire risks across Council-managed land.
• Collaborate with sporting clubs, contractors and community stakeholders to enhance parks and facilities.
• Contribute to asset management, planning, landscape design and maintenance strategies.
