Job summary

South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a Coordinator Open Space to lead the Open Space and Environment team, coordinating parks, gardens, urban trees, public amenities and landscaping across the municipality.

You will provide strategic and operational leadership to multiple teams, ensure asset management and safety compliance, and drive continuous improvement, delivering high-quality spaces for the community.

Qualifications

• Experienced leader with Parks/Open Space/landscaping background.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong operational management and budget coordination.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement with community, contractors and agencies.
• Knowledge of asset management principles for public infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Parks & Gardens, Urban Tree, Public Amenities and Landscaping teams to deliver safe, high-quality services across the open space network.
• Develop, implement and monitor operational programs, maintenance schedules and inspections to maintain assets to standards.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives like the Open Space Asset Management Plan and Tree Management Plan.
• Provide leadership in asset management using data and condition assessments to inform priorities and long-term financial planning.
• Manage customer and community enquiries, service requests and complex issues with timely resolutions.
• Oversee financial performance including budget development, expenditure management, procurement and contractor management.
• Promote a positive safety culture by ensuring legislative compliance and wellbeing standards.
• Support the Manager Open Space and Environment with strategic advice, reports and cross-department collaboration.
