Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District seeks an Occupational Therapist Level 3 to deliver evidence-based care for people with life-limiting illnesses at Westmead Hospital and in community settings.

You will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary Supportive and Palliative Care service to support quality of life, independence and meaningful outcomes for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma recognised by AAOT-NSW and registered with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist.
• Significant post-graduate clinical experience in OT, including palliative care.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in supervision of staff and/or students.
• Commitment to Quality Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice.
• Willingness to uphold NSW Health CORE Values.

Where you'll be working

Based at Westmead Hospital within the Supportive and Palliative Care service, you’ll be a part of a collaborative team is committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred care across the continuum. You’ll work alongside specialist clinicians and community partners to help patients and families navigate complex care needs with dignity, choice and support.

In this team you will:

• Be part of WSLHD-wide Supportive and Palliative Care service focused on high-quality, equitable care.
• Work across inpatient, outpatient and community environments, supporting continuity of care.
• Collaborate closely with allied health, medical, nursing and community teams across Western Sydney.
• Partner with community providers, including Silver Chain, to support safe and timely discharge planning.
• Contribute to a culture of learning, collaboration, respect and mindful clinical practice.

What you'll be doing

As the Occupational Therapist you’ll provide high-quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy to patients who have been referred to Westmead Supportive and Palliative Care and require ongoing support. Utilising your experiences you will be drawing on advanced clinical reasoning, you’ll help patients achieve meaningful health and functional outcomes while supporting families and care teams.

Your responsibilities in this role will be to:

• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate client-centred Occupational Therapy interventions for people with life-limiting disease.
• Apply advanced clinical reasoning and independent professional judgement when managing complex clinical presentations.
• Coordinate care and discharge planning across hospital, community, NGO and family supports to promote continuity of care.
• Educate patients, families, health professionals and students while contributing to clinical supervision and professional development.
• Lead and contribute to quality improvement initiatives that strengthen Occupational Therapy practice and service delivery.

Selection Criteria

• Qualification: Degree or Diploma recognised by AAOT-NSW
• Registration: AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist
• Significant post-graduate clinical experience in Occupation Therapy including Palliative Care setting and complex discharge planning
• Ability to work both independently with minimum direct clinical supervision, and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated effective time management and organisational skills
• Experience in supervision of professional staff and/or senior students
• Demonstrated willingness to uphold NSW Health CORE Values
• Demonstrated experience to design, implement and evaluate intervention programs, and an ongoing commitment to Quality Improvement & Evidenced Based Practice.
