Job summary
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne is seeking an Occupational Therapist Grade 2 to join our Allied Health team on two fixed-term roles (full-time and part-time). You will deliver inpatient and outpatient services across our Melbourne campus, manage an oncology caseload and contribute to education and research within the department.
Applicants should have a OT degree, current AHPRA registration, at least three years' experience in oncology, strong communication and documentation skills,

Peter Mac is seeking passionate and experienced Occupational Therapists to join our Allied Health team in fixed-term opportunities based at our Melbourne campus.
We currently have two positions available:
- 1 x Full-Time Fixed-Term Position
- 1 x Part-Time Fixed-Term Position (45.6 hours per fortnight)
Contract Period:
- Full-time role 28 September 2026 to 28 May 2027
- Part-time role 28 September 2026 to 23 August 2027
Working within a specialist oncology setting, you will provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy services, contribute to service development, and support the ongoing growth of evidence-based practice, research, and education within the department.
As an Occupational Therapist Grade 2, you will:
- Deliver acute inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy services to patients across Peter Mac's Melbourne campus and satellite services.
- Manage a varied and complex oncology caseload.
- Undertake assessment, treatment planning, intervention and patient education.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
- Support the supervision and development of students, assistants and junior staff.
- Contribute to quality improvement, research and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Assist in the ongoing development and refinement of occupational therapy services within key tumour streams.
- Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and professional practice.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor, master's or equivalent).
- Current AHPRA Occupational Therapy Registration.
- Minimum three years' relevant clinical experience.
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in acute oncology and cancer care.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, including computer literacy.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Reliable, flexible and patient-centred approach to care.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
- Experience in palliative care.
- SWEP credentialing.
- Relevant postgraduate studies.
- Experience supervising students, Allied Health Assistants, or junior clinicians.
- Experience in quality improvement, program development, research or service evaluation.
- Membership and active involvement in relevant professional organisations such as OTA, COSA or ALA.
- Manage a complex clinical caseload across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Triage and respond to referrals within established timeframes.
- Provide high-quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services.
- Liaise with community providers and external services to support continuity of care.
- Support student placement coordination and supervision activities.
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff, students and Allied Health Assistants.
- Contribute to the development of clinical leadership capabilities within the team.
- Participate in quality improvement, research and evidence-based practice activities.

AHPRA Registration
Key Accountabilities Demonstrated by / Key Performance Indicators
1. Deliver high quality, appropriate care and education to cancer patients
- Manage a complex caseload and varied clinical caseload (70-80% clinical)
- Triage and manage inpatient and outpatient referrals within KPI timeframes
- Liaise with LMOs, community based practitioners and other services
- Make independent clinical reasoning decisions relating to the majority of complex cases and seek assistance as required
- Assist in the development and refinement of occupational therapy services for relevant tumour streams
2. Provide leadership and guidance through an oncology and patient focused framework
- Take a lead role in co-ordination of student placements (in conjunction with Grade 3 OT)
- Supervise and support junior staff, students and assistants
- Contribute to junior staff and student development and training
- Provide regular, structured supervision to allocated staff or students
- Seeks and acts on opportunities to develop leadership skills
3. Participate in and contribute to departmental, hospital and external activities including continuing education, quality assurance and research
- Maintain up to date appraisal and supervision records and participate in planned sessions according to schedule agreed upon
- Regular, active participation in staff meetings, education sessions and in-services
- Maintain, document and report course participation and attendance, including all mandatory hospital development courses
- Assist in relevant quality improvement, research and evidence based practice (EBP) projects to develop the department and OT clinical practice
