Job summary

Northern Beaches Hospital, part of the NSW Health system, seeks an experienced Nurse Unit Manager to lead the Urology and Robotic surgery program. The role combines clinical leadership, administrative duties, and education to improve efficiency and outcomes in a busy perioperative environment.

You will coordinate scheduling, resource allocation, and policy development, while mentoring perioperative staff and fostering strong teamwork with surgeons and nursing teams.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse-Division 1 with APHRA and relevant management qualification or equivalent experience.
• Ability to lead and manage a clinical team.
• Strong communication and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily urology and robotic surgery scheduling and resource allocation.
• Support workforce coordination and planning in perioperative environment.
• Manage inventory, equipment readiness and maintenance for urology and robotic surgery.
• Develop and maintain robotic surgery policies and protocols.
• Participate in quality activities and data analysis for continuous improvement.
• Provide intraoperative robotic support and troubleshooting.
• Support onboarding and ongoing development of perioperative staff.
• Build collaboration with surgeons and perioperative teams.

We are currently seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and highly skilled leader to support and improve the Urology and Robotic surgery program as a Nurse Unit Manager (NUM)

Where you'll be working Northern Beaches Hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, a state-of-the-art theatre complex, world-class education centre, and excellent staff facilities including cafe and secure on site car parking. Northern Beaches Hospital has a wide range of services that can help you build a healthcare career in your chosen field. The Interventional Suite accommodates adult & paediatrics patients, for planned & unplanned procedures &/or surgery. It comprises: 14 state-of-the-art operating theatres including a hybrid theatre; 2 Cardiac Catheter Labs; 4 Procedure Rooms; 41 bed Recovery Unit; and state-of-the-art Sterilizing Services Department.

What You'll Be Doing The Urology and Robotics NUM is a clinical NUM role that combines administrative, clinical, technical, and educational responsibilities to facilitate the smooth operation and clinical success of robotic surgery at NBH. The role focuses on supporting improvement of the Urology and Robotic surgery program efficiency, clinical outcomes, and fostering a skilled, collaborative environment. While these specialities are the key for this role, other speciality coordination and support may be required

• Coordinate daily urology and robotic surgery scheduling and resource allocation to support operational efficiency and patient flow.
• Support the NUM 2 Scrub/Scout with workforce coordination and operational planning within the perioperative environment around these specialities.
• Coordinate inventory management, equipment readiness, and maintenance of urology and robotic surgical specialities.
• Develop and maintain robotic surgery policies, procedures, competency frameworks, and clinical protocols.
• Participate in quality activities and managing operational data to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide intraoperative robotic support and troubleshooting during robotic procedures.
• Support onboarding, education, competency assessment, and ongoing development of perioperative staff and robotic surgery teams.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with surgeons, perioperative teams, and external stakeholders.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria

• Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) AND Relevant management tertiary qualification OR equivalent work experience, OR a combination of study and work experience; and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support a clinical team.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Applications, roster management systems and electronic medical records.
• Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in change management and initiating a new service delivery model within an established service.
• Evidence of and commitment to patient/customer focussed care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
