Job summary

QRIC, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, is seeking a leader to oversee Thoroughbred and Greyhound stewarding in North Queensland. You will chair race meetings, guide investigations, and manage regional staff to uphold racing integrity.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Steward, you will coordinate stewarding functions, ensure compliance with the Australian Rules of Racing, and build strong relationships with racing clubs and QRIC staff. Flexible work arrangements may be considered.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience chairing race meetings and conducting related inquiries.
• Proven knowledge and practical application of the Australian Rules of Racing and Queensland Local Rules.
• Extensive experience in stewarding operations and decision-making.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, with ability to manage staff and support high-performance team outcomes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with licensed participants, clubs and stakeholders.
• Sound understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory processes and appeals frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate stewarding functions across the North Region, providing high-level support to Chief and Deputy Stewards.
• Manage regional rostering, staffing, equipment allocation and swabbing resources.
• Provide regional management support to QRIC staff under a matrix model.
• Ensure consistent administration of Racing Rules by regional staff.
• Attend race meetings, trials and inspections as required.
• Chair race meetings and inquiries as delegated.
• Ensure staff have the tools and resources to perform effectively.
• Oversee welfare services and audits in collaboration with the Compliance Assurance Team.
• Drive processes to detect race fixing and wagering anomalies.
• Represent QRIC across North Queensland and build relationships with clubs and stakeholders.
• Provide authoritative advice on the North Queensland racing industry to internal stakeholders.
• Ensure Workplace Health and Safety obligations are met for staff.
