Job summary

The University of Newcastle invites applications for a Data Specialist in Neuroimaging Analytics and Infrastructure as part of the BRAIN-SCAN initiative. You will lead analysis of large-scale neuroimaging datasets and develop pipelines to inform researchers, clinicians and PhD candidates across Australia.

Join a joint program with WEHI and the MHF Centre for Brain Cancer Research to advance brain cancer imaging research, contribute to national infrastructure, and uphold rigorous data governance

Qualifications

• Degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, data science or a related discipline with at least 4 years of relevant research experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with neuroimaging data formats such as DICOM and NIfTI.
• Experience developing computational pipelines or analytical workflows for imaging data.
• Programming experience in Python, Matlab or R and Linux-based computing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the analysis and interpretation of large-scale neuroimaging datasets.
• Deliver high-quality analytical outputs that inform research priorities and decision-making.
• Develop and optimise neuroimaging analysis pipelines, workflows and methodologies.
• Collaborate with researchers, clinicians and industry partners to advance brain cancer research.
• Support graduate researchers and PhD candidates with imaging data analysis and interpretation.
• Translate complex datasets into meaningful insights, reports and recommendations.
• Contribute to the development of Australia’s national neuroimaging infrastructure.
• Ensure robust data quality, governance and reproducibility standards.
• Identify opportunities to innovate and enhance analytical approaches and research outcomes.
• Play a key role in delivering outcomes for the BRAIN-SCAN initiative.
