Job summary

Randstad Noosa Shire is seeking a practical Natural Areas Officer to join the Environmental Services team. You will lead hands-on ecological restoration, protect biodiversity, and maintain bushland and trail networks for safe community access.

Reporting to the Natural Areas Supervisor, you will inspect and maintain trails, manage weeds, use GIS and Technology One, and participate in emergency response activities. A Certificate III in Conservation or equivalent experience is required.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (or equivalent demonstrated industry experience).
• Strong understanding of local flora, fauna, ecosystems, and weed management techniques.
• Licences & certifications include C Class Driver's Licence (4WD), White Card, ACDC Operator Licence, and Senior First Aid/CPR.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical ecological restoration using diverse techniques and weed management equipment.
• Inspect, construct, and maintain trails and reserve infrastructure for safe access and habitat connectivity.
• Monitor field operations and reserve conditions using GIS, Technology One, and MS Office.
• Safely apply herbicides and maintain statutory records under the ACDC Act 1966.
• conduct pre-start inspections, cleaning and maintenance of tools, small plant, and vehicles.
• Respond to community enquiries, resolve requests, and represent Council professionally.
• Participate in emergency response activities and after-hours roster as required.

The Role

Reporting to the Natural Areas Supervisor, you will be on the frontline of bushland management and environmental conservation across Council's reserve network. Your work will directly preserve and enhance Noosa's unique natural assets while ensuring safe access for the community.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering practical ecological restoration using diverse techniques, small plant, hand-held tools, and weed management equipment.

• Inspecting, constructing, and maintaining trails and reserve infrastructure to promote safe community access and habitat connectivity.

• Monitoring and recording field operations and reserve conditions using GIS mapping tools, Technology One, and MS Office.

• Safely applying herbicides and maintaining statutory records in compliance with the Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) Act 1966.

• Conducting pre-start inspections, cleaning, and routine maintenance of tools, small plant, and vehicles.

• Responding to community enquiries, resolving customer requests, and representing Council with professionalism and care.

• Participating in emergency response activities (e.g., floods, storm events, or bushfires) and the after-hours roster as required.

You are a practical, safety-conscious environmental professional who thrives in outdoor field operations and values working collaboratively in a high-performing team.

To be successful, you will possess:

Essential Requirements:

• Qualifications: Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (or equivalent demonstrated industry experience).

• Ecological Knowledge: Strong understanding of local flora, fauna, regional ecosystems, and environmental weed management techniques.

• Licences & Certifications:

  • Current manual 'C' Class Driver's Licence with 4WD operating experience.

  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

  • Unrestricted Commercial Operator's Licence under the ACDC Act (or ability to obtain within 2 months of appointment).

  • Current Senior First Aid & CPR Certificate (or ability to obtain within 2 months of appointment).

Desirable Skills:

• Chainsaw certification (Trim and cut felled trees).

• Prescribed Burn Crew Member certification.

• Safe off-road 4WD operation training.
