Service Stream seeks a Senior Environmental Manager to lead environmental program delivery and land management across South Australia and the Northern Territory. The role includes providing technical advice, coordinating cross-base activities, and engaging with Defence Estate Land Management and external stakeholders.

You will oversee land management across SA and NT, ensure compliance with environmental legislation, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Job Description Summary

Senior Environmental Manager role in the Defence & Social Infrastructure division, supporting Defence estates in SA and the NT.

About the Role

We are proud to be a new Australian Department of Defence partner, offering career opportunities to support the delivery of Property and Asset Services across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

We have a newly created role for a National Environmental Manager to join us and support with this contract. The Defence estate is one of Australia's largest and most environmentally complex property portfolios, encompassing significant biodiversity assets, bushfire management, and important ecological communities. Our preference is to have this role based in the Northern Territory, however we are open to other locations such as South Australia noting there will be regular travel between the two operating areas.

About the role

You will have overall responsibility for environmental program delivery and land management delivery across SA and the NT. This includes providing technical advice on land management activities and liaising with Defence Estate Land Management and other key external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Serving as the senior SME for Land Management scope of work deliverables across multiple bases.
• Being the key point of contact for senior Defence customers including fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence personnel, contractors, and local authorities.
• Bushfire control activities to mitigate risks and ensure safety across the estates.
• Feral animal control activities to maintain ecological balance.
• Liaising with Defence Estate Land Management to ensure alignment and efficiency in land management activities.
• Planning and coordinating the delivery of all Land Management works, ensuring compliance with project timelines and standards.
• Conducting regular site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to land management protocols and procedures.
• Preparing and presenting reports up to senior executive stakeholder on land management activities, highlighting achievements and identifying areas for improvement.
• Promoting a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancements and implementing best practices.

About you

You have senior management experience in environmental and land management, preferably within a similarly complex operating environment. You will enjoy working collaboratively across various stakeholders including operations, consultants, Defence personnel and executives.

Our ideal candidate will also have:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Land Management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in bushfire and feral animal control activities.
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
• Experience liaising with government agencies and other stakeholders in the management of land and environmental projects.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver outcomes within specified timeframes.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead a team of professionals including a graduate.
