Job summary

Livingin Australia is seeking a Registered Nurse for an Accident & Emergency position in Mackay, QLD. The contract runs from 25 May 2026 to 19 July 2026 with potential extensions, in a Level 4 ED serving adults and paediatric patients.

The ED includes multiple bays and a high patient turnover, requiring strong triage, assessment and rapid care delivery. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years in ED, ALS/BLS certification, and experience with infection control and medication management.

Qualifications

• Must hold current Australian nursing registration (AHPRA) to work in Australia.

About the role

A Northern QLD hospital requires a Registered Nurse (RN) in Accident & Emergency from 25 May 2026 to 19 July 2026 (and additional periods). The Emergency Department is a Level 4 clinical service with adult and paediatric clients. The ED includes 2 Resuscitation/Trauma bays, 3 High Dependency (HDU) bays, 12 acute bed spaces, 5 Paediatric bays, 12 Fast track, 16 short stay beds, 2 Mental health and 1 isolation HDU bay and sees on average over 150 patients per day.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients in the emergency department, triage and assess patients, manage acute conditions, administer medications, record patient information, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team. Maintain compliance with infection control, medication safety, and reporting protocols.

Minimum Experience

• Minimum 3 years experience in an Emergency Department.

Desirable Experience

• Knowledge of ieMR and proficiency in using this system.
• Previous experience working in Australia, QLD Health and/or Mackay HHSM.

Mandatory Competencies

• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certificate.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
• Manual and patient handling.
• Infection control including hand hygiene.
• Mandatory reporting of reasonable suspicions of child abuse and neglect.
• Occupational Violence Prevention Training incorporating de‑escalation skills, situational awareness, and maintaining personal safety.
• Medications management including QPHS (Drugs and Poisons) Regulations November 2012.

Additional Training and Requirements

• Integrated electronic medical record training.
• Online induction training.
• Other training as requested by Health and Hospital Services (HHS).
• Must hold medical registration with AHPRA and have the right to work in Australia.
