Job summary

HCF Australia is seeking a Mobile App Engineer to design, develop and maintain high-quality mobile applications for iOS and Android using React Native. You will translate business requirements into scalable features and work with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to deliver exceptional user experiences.

You will implement secure auth flows, test suites, and automated pipelines (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions), while contributing to code quality and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years mobile development experience with React Native.
• Strong TS/JavaScript, native module integration, and UI component design.
• Experience releasing apps to App Store and Google Play.

Job description

The Mobile App Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining high-quality mobile applications that deliver exceptional user experiences across iOS and Android platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into technical specifications; assess system impacts, dependencies, and effort estimates for new features and enhancements.
• Select patterns (e.g., modular architecture, feature flags) that optimise scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Design and code robust React Native features (TypeScript), integrate native modules where required (Swift/Objective C, Kotlin/Java), and craft reusable UI components aligned with design systems.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests (e.g., Jest, Detox) to ensure reliability and support automated quality checks.
• Assist with build and release processes for App Store and Google Play, including preparing release notes and supporting staged rollouts.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver features that meet user and business needs.
• Understand company vision and customer journeys to deliver mobile solutions that enable strategy and measurable customer outcomes.
• Implement secure storage, keychain/keystore usage, certificate pinning, auth flows (OAuth/OpenID Connect), secure data handling, and compliance with privacy standards.
• Support accessibility requirements (e.g., dynamic font sizes, screen reader compatibility) and collaborate with QA to validate compliance.
• Maintain automated build/test/deploy pipelines (e.g., Fastlane, Bitrise/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps); manage code signing, environment configs, and artifacts.
• Use feature flags for safe releases, A/B testing, and incremental delivery; implement telemetry to validate outcomes.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience (4+ years in mobile development environments).
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, applying SOLID principles and common design patterns.
• Strong proficiency in React Native for cross-platform mobile development (iOS and Android).
• Hands-on experience with native development tools (Android Studio, Xcode, VScode) and integrating native modules.
• Debugging skills with React native dev tools
• Hands on experience with JavaScript (ES6) and Typescript
• Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, client-server architecture, and mobile/web design patterns.
• Experience releasing apps to App Store and Google Play, including basic compliance steps.
• Proficiency with source control tools (Git, TFS) and branching strategies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and performance tuning skills.
• Ability to design and implement scalable, maintainable, and testable solutions.
• Skilled in conducting code reviews, enforcing standards, and fostering continuous improvement.
• Comfortable with Agile practices, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery.
• Experience with TypeScript, Redux/MobX, and React Navigation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for mobile (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and mobile analytics frameworks.
• Understanding of modern testing frameworks (Jest, Detox) and automated testing strategies.
