Job summary

Lynas Rare Earths Ltd is seeking a motivated Mining Engineer to join our Mining team in Western Australia. Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will provide engineering support across mine planning, scheduling, drill and blast, and operational performance on a FIFO roster from Perth to Mt Weld.

You will help optimise mining performance, develop designs, monitor production, and contribute to cost forecasting and reporting, while mentoring graduates and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance on

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering is required.
• Previous experience in a mining engineering role within open-pit mining is essential.
• Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software (Surpac, MinSched, MPX) is preferred.
• Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities are expected.
• Experience in mining cost analysis, forecasting and performance reporting is advantageous.
• Understanding of mining contracts and contractor management is preferred.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across mine planning, drill and blast, and operations.
• Strong communication and collaboration with operational teams is required.
• Commitment to safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, maintain and monitor rolling three-month mine production plans and schedules.
• Develop mine designs and implement amendments to meet changing requirements.
• Provide technical input to contractors for drill and blast plans.
• Monitor mining performance and contribute to monthly reporting.
• Identify opportunities to optimise efficiencies and reduce costs.
• Liaise with mining contractors to align with plans and schedules.
• Prepare mining cost forecasts and assist with contractor claims and reconciliations.
• Contribute to monthly mining reports on safety, geotechnical matters and costs.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance on site and provide mentoring to graduates.

Our Rare Earths mine at Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade Rare Earths deposits in the world and we operate the world’s largest single Rare Earths processing plant in Malaysia – so you’re joining a very unique team! As a team member you will be contributing to the sustainable supply of rare earths metals which are used in oil & gas, electric vehicles, and wind turbines.

Lynas Rare Earths is seeking a motivated Mining Engineer to join our Mining team. Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will provide engineering support across mine planning, scheduling, drill and blast activities, and operational performance. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to mine optimisation initiatives, support operational decision-making and drive continuous improvement across mining activities. This is a FIFO position from Perth to our Mt Weld Operations on an 8/6 roster.

As a highly valued member of the Lynas Rare Earths team, you will:

• Prepare, maintain and monitor rolling three-month mine production plans and schedules to support operational objectives.
• Develop mine designs and implement amendments in response to changing operational requirements.
• Provide technical input and support to contractors in the preparation of drill and blast plans.
• Monitor mining performance, ensuring accurate and timely daily and monthly production reporting.
• Identify opportunities to optimise mining efficiencies, improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
• Liaise with mining contractors to ensure alignment with operational plans, schedules and performance expectations.
• Prepare mining cost forecasts, undertake cost analysis and assist with contractor claims and reconciliations.
• Contribute to monthly mining reports, including operational performance, safety, geotechnical matters and cost analysis.
• Support compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, including explosives and dangerous goods storage facilities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate engineers and vacation students.

What you will bring to the team:

• A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Previous experience in a mining engineering role within an open-pit mining environment.
• Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software, ideally including Surpac, MinSched and MPX.
• Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience in mining cost analysis, forecasting and performance reporting.
• An understanding of mining contracts and contractor management.
• The ability to manage competing priorities across mine planning, drill and blast, and operational activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working with operational teams.
• A commitment to safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• A current WA C Class Manual Driver’s Licence and Dangerous Goods Security Card.
