Cadence Connect in Brisbane seeks a seasoned accountant for mine accounting, reporting to the Manager of Mine Accounting. You will produce monthly results, budgets and forecasts, with a focus on cost performance and site collaboration across finance, commercial and operations.
The role blends on-site work (roughly one week a month) with remote collaboration, requiring autonomous work, strong relationships and a proactive approach to cost management and capital projects.
If you're an accountant in the resources sector or an accountant in an adjacent industry reading this, feeling like you want more; more exposure, more remuneration and more of a team that has time and time again shown progression evidenced by promotions, projects and secondments then we'd urge you to read some more.
This is an ASX listed resources producer with operations across multiple sites in two states, and a balance sheet strong enough to keep investing through the cycle. The operation this role supports is 100% owned, so there is no joint venture reporting to work around, and there is an expansion ahead of it meaning the responsibilities and exposure grows with the company. The finance function was restructured this year to bring site accounting into one group team, which means a clearer reporting line and more consistency than most site based finance roles offer.
You'd sit in Brisbane with a team of 7 all looking after the assets and working hand in glove with high calibre professionals in a very well performing business.
What the business wants from this hire is someone who understands the operation, not just the ledger. The month end has to be right, but the value sits in cost reviews, in forecasts that hold up, and in helping operational leaders understand what their numbers are telling them before the quarter gets away from them. Then looking ahead, how can we improve this, make it better or implement a change that demands more efficiency.
If you want commercial exposure to a mining operation without committing to a fly in fly out roster or living regionally this is worth a look.
Reporting to the Manager of Mine Accounting, you sit between the group finance team and the site commercial and operational leaders. The role exists to produce accurate monthly results for the operation, reliable budgets and forecasts, and clear commentary on what is driving cost performance. Technical accounting treatment is handled by the group team, so this is an operational seat rather than a technical reporting one.
The travel is there and it is encouraged, so it should be for people wanting to work in resources. You will be on site roughly one week a month, and the business is clear that the relationships and operational understanding are built there, not over email. You will also work largely unsupervised, across local time zones, with a manager based interstate, that do travel to Brisbane bi-monthly. If you want heavy supervision, or you want to work mostly from home, this is not the role.
If however, you're ambitious, love building relationships, happen to be an excellent accountant who thrives in a business that isn't stuck in the 80's and embrace technology alongside remote team management just as much as an in person coffee catchup, then this might be worth exploring!
The work splits across month end and ledger integrity, cost and capital accounting, and partnering with the site teams, with the balance moving through the reporting cycle.
The first filter here is behavioural. You need to work autonomously without being chased, hold yourself to a high standard when nobody is checking, and be willing to pick up the phone and have the harder conversation with a budget owner. You need a good attitude, things aren't always pretty in mining and you should be ok to roll with the punches and work with your team to solve the problem rather than ignore it.
Sitting underneath that is a solid accounting foundation, because the month end still has to be clean before any of the commercial work matters.
$155,000 to $158,000 total fixed remuneration plus a 15% bonus at accountant level, with scope to approximately $180,000 plus 15% for a more experienced appointment.
The site Commercial Superintendent role is currently vacant, and mine accounting is the recognised route into it, so the career capital here is a genuine step towards commercial leadership in resources.
