Job summary

ABC Shipping Containers in Hemmant, Queensland, is expanding its workshop and seeking a versatile MIG welder and container modification all-rounder to join our team. You’ll work on MIG welding, fabrication and complete container modification projects from start to finish.

You’ll read drawings, measure precisely, fit doors and windows, install insulation and seals, and help finish projects to high-quality standards while complying with safety procedures and deadlines.

Qualifications

• At least two years of practical welding experience.
• Confident and competent with MIG welding.
• Produce clean welds and finish work to a high standard.
• Measure accurately and fabricate components to fit.
• Mechanically minded with practical problem-solving skills.
• Willing to work across different trades and tasks.

We provide container sales, hire, transport and custom modification solutions throughout Queensland. At our Hemmant workshop, we turn standard shipping containers into everything from site offices and storage units to workshops, dangerous-goods stores and fully customised builds.

We’re taking on bigger projects and expanding our capabilities. We now need another strong, practical operator who can help us push the workshop forward.

We are not looking for someone who only wants to stand at a welding bench all day. We need a versatile tradesperson who can fabricate, fit, seal, finish and solve problems.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Welder & Container Modification All-Rounder to join our Hemmant workshop team.

MIG welding and fabrication will be a major part of your role, but the job covers the complete modification process. One day you might be cutting and welding structural steel; the next you could be installing insulation, fitting a door or window, sealing a container or helping complete a custom interior.

Your work will include:

Welding and Fabrication

• MIG welding and general steel fabrication
• Cutting openings and completing structural container modifications
• Fabricating and installing frames, supports, brackets and reinforcements
• Repairing damaged steel, doors, floors and container components
• Grinding, cleaning and finishing welded areas properly
• Reading measurements, drawings and job instructions accurately

Container Modifications

• Installing personnel doors, roller doors, windows, vents and other components
• Fitting kitchenettes, cabinetry, trims and custom features
• Installing EPS insulation panels and completing internal panel work
• Completing sealing, silicone and weatherproofing work
• Assisting with flooring, painting and finishing as required
• Working across projects from initial fabrication through to final completion

• Checking your own work before considering the job finished
• Identifying issues early and finding practical solutions
• Following safe workshop procedures and using equipment correctly
• Working efficiently without sacrificing quality
• Taking responsibility for your jobs and helping the team meet deadlines

Who We Want

You’ll be well suited to this role if you:

• Have at least two years of practical welding experience
• Are confident and competent with MIG welding
• Produce clean welds and properly grind and finish your work
• Can measure accurately and fabricate components to suit the job
• Are mechanically minded and comfortable solving practical problems
• Are willing to work across different trades and tasks
• Take pride in producing neat, durable and professional work
• Can work independently without needing to be continually chased
• Communicate clearly and contribute to the wider workshop team
• Turn up reliably, work safely and follow jobs through to completion
• Hold valid Australian working rights

Formal trade qualifications are welcome but not essential. Demonstrated skill, experience and the quality of your work matter most to us.

Experience in container modifications, carpentry, panel installation, door and window fitting, painting, sealing or general construction will be highly regarded.
