Job summary

Supaglu is seeking an experienced Houdini VFX Artist for an on-site role in Sydney, starting in October. The contract runs up to 12 months with visa support and relocation assistance for eligible candidates. You will work within a team delivering photoreal FX for feature films and television, taking shots from setup to final delivery.

You will create high-end simulations, including explosions and gore, collaborating with FX, CG, lighting and compositing teams to meet production standards.

Qualifications

We're looking for an experienced Houdini VFX Artist to join an independent, artist-led VFX studio delivering high-end feature film and television work.

This is an on-site role in Sydney starting in October, with a contract available for up to one year. International candidates are welcome, with 408 visa support and up to AUD $5,000 in relocation assistance available for eligible candidates.

About the Studio

Our client is an independent VFX and animation studio specializing in design-led visual effects for film and television.

Based within one of Sydney's major film production precincts, the team brings together experienced artists, filmmakers and supervisors with backgrounds across leading international VFX studios. They work across Australian and international productions, collaborating with major studios, streamers and independent filmmakers.

Their capabilities span the full VFX pipeline, including concept development, on-set supervision, FX, animation, lighting and compositing.

The Role

You'll create sophisticated, photorealistic FX using Houdini, with a particular focus on explosions, blood, gore, destruction and other complex simulations.

Working alongside VFX Supervisors, CG, Lighting and Compositing, you'll take shots from initial setup and simulation through refinement and final delivery.

What You'll Do

• Create high-quality photorealistic FX and simulations using Houdini
• Develop effects including explosions, blood, gore and destruction
• Build procedural and simulation-based solutions for complex shots
• Refine simulations to achieve believable scale, movement and physical behavior
• Troubleshoot and optimize FX setups and simulations
• Collaborate across FX, CG, Lighting and Compositing
• Deliver complex shots to production deadlines and quality standards

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional VFX experience
• Strong professional expertise in Houdini
• Proven experience creating photorealistic FX and simulations
• Experience with explosions, blood, gore, destruction or similarly complex effects
• Strong understanding of procedural workflows and physically based simulation
• Experience across feature film, television or comparable high-end VFX productions
• Ability to independently manage complex shots through final delivery
• Strong communication and collaborative skills
• A high-quality reel demonstrating relevant Houdini FX work

Location, Visa & Relocation

Candidates must be available to start in October and work on-site in Sydney. Those currently based elsewhere must be willing to relocate.

For eligible international candidates, 408 visa support and up to AUD $5,000 in relocation assistance are available.
