Description du poste

Royal Flying Doctor Service – Canberra ACT
Join the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) and make a lasting difference to mental health care across Western NSW.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the world’s largest and most respected aeromedical organisations. Through leading aviation, medical and communications technology, we provide essential primary health care, mental health services and 24/7 emergency support to people living, working and travelling across remote, rural and regional Australia.

We are seeking a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our well-established Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Wellbeing Team. This multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality, recovery-focused care from four Wellbeing Place centres and through outreach services to more than 30 remote communities across Western NSW, travelling by 4WD and light aircraft to reach those who need support most.

This role will support the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP), funded by the Western NSW Primary Health Network and successfully delivered by RFDS for several years. The introduction of the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner position reflects our commitment to expanding access to advanced mental health care for regional and remote communities.

As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, you will provide coordinated clinical care and therapeutic support to people living with chronic and complex mental health conditions across Broken Hill, Dubbo and Western NSW. The MHNIP model offers exceptional flexibility, enabling consumers to access the right care, at the right time, for as long as they need it. This approach is particularly valuable for those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.

Working collaboratively within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver advanced clinical assessments, diagnostic expertise and evidence-based treatment planning, helping to address health inequities created by geographical isolation. The role combines therapeutic intervention, care coordination and case management, tailoring support to each individual’s goals and recovery journey in accordance with MHNIP guidelines and contemporary best practice.

This position may be based in either Broken Hill or Dubbo. Applicants based in Dubbo must be willing and able to undertake regular travel to Broken Hill and other locations across Western NSW as required. Travel forms an important part of the role and is supported by RFDS to ensure the delivery of quality mental health services to remote communities.

You will become part of a passionate and supportive team of clinicians, peer workers, community engagement and health promotion professionals, and administrative staff who are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people across Western NSW.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Mental Health.
  • Registered with AHPRA as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Significant experience or demonstrated understanding of working in rural, remote or population health settings.
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Experience working with rural and remote clients in pastoral settings.
  • Experience working with families, couples and groups.
  • Ability to work full-time; however, 0.8 FTE will be considered.
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake regular travel across Western NSW, including frequent travel between Dubbo and Broken Hill where applicable.

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to practise at an advanced level while making a meaningful impact in rural and remote communities, we would love to hear from you.

Our Values:

Reliability, Care, Trust and Safety shape the way we work as individuals, as team members and with the communities we serve.

The RFDS (South Eastern Section) is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected Veteran status.

The RFDSSE aims to fill vacancies as quickly as possible. This means we may close the advertisement once a suitable candidate has been identified and this may occur before the published closing date. We encourage interested applicants to submit an application as early as possible.
