Be part of an innovative, culturally led mental health initiative delivering real impact to Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.

Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation, under the guidance of Elders and cultural leaders from across the region, recently opened the Strongbala Minds – Walk in Talk in space. We are a unique culturally led, well-being and mental health space available to everyone. We are funded through the NTPHN as part of the national support of medicare Mental Health Centres. We work holistically and collaboratively to provide crisis support, service navigation and referrals. We also offer short to medium term mental health support at our hub in the centre of Katherine and via our internal referral process for people to work alongside regional cultural Men’s and Women’s Groups and engage in cultural and on country healing activities.

What You’ll Do :
  • Provide culturally responsive mental health support to people in crisis or seeking improved wellbeing
  • Collaborate with cultural leaders, peer workers and clinical staff in a unique integrated care setting
  • Conduct assessments and deliver evidence-based therapies tailored to individuals’ needs
  • Support clients to connect with ongoing services and recovery plans
  • Participate in mutual learning and team development in a cross-cultural environment
Who You Are :
  • A qualified and registered Social Worker, Nurse, Psychologist, or Occupational Therapist
  • Experienced in delivering psychological therapies and working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Deeply respectful and aware of the impacts of social determinants of health on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Resilient, flexible and an empathetic communicator
  • Committed to partnership-building and trauma-informed, community-centred care
