Job summary

headspace Mildura is seeking a Mental Health Clinician to join in a dual Engagement & Assessment and Therapeutic Intervention role. Working under the Clinical Lead, you will provide holistic services to youth, support registration, triage and intake, and deliver evidence-based therapies.

You will collaborate with families, educators, and services to maximise young people’s emotional and social wellbeing, while receiving supervision and ongoing development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, nursing or occupational therapy with registration or accreditation.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Evidence of healthcare worker immunisation or immunity to communicable diseases.

Responsibilities

• Provide a holistic service orientating young people to headspace services and supporting registration, triage and intake and engaging in therapeutic care.
• Facilitate a young person’s transition to the most appropriate service, internally or externally.
• Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions including individual, family, and group programs as clinically indicated.
• Engage and support parents/guardians and collaborate with schools, universities and other networks.

Classification: Social Worker Grade 3 Year 1-4 (YC46-YC49) or Allied Health equivalent, Occupational Therapist Grade 3 (YB24-YB27), Psychologist equivalent, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 (NP75), dependent on qualifications and experience.

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation. headspace Mildura is a youth friendly facility with the mission of enhancing the emotional and social wellbeing of young people aged 12 to 25 years by providing an accessible, flexible, evidence based therapeutic care and support.We work collaboratively with young people. families, carers and the wider community to improve mental health outcomes and create positive change. Services are provided across four core streams: primary health care, mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD), and social/vocational services.

About the opportunity

headspace Mildura is seeking a Mental Health Clinician with an interest in youth mental health to join the team in a dual role of Engagement & Assessment and Therapeutic Intervention.

The headspace Mildura Mental Health Clinician works under the direction of the headspace Mildura Clinical Lead and Centre Manager with primary duties of:

• Provide a comprehensive holistic service which may include orientating young people to headspace services and supporting them through the registration process, triage and intake and engaging in therapeutic care.

• facilitating a young person’s transition into the most appropriate service, either internally or externally

• Providing evidence-based therapeutic intervention as clinically indicated, including individual therapy, family therapy, and/or group programs

• Engaging and supporting parents and guardians of young people and working closely with schools, universities, TAFEs and other key networks young people may be engaged with.

About you

As the successful candidate, you will bring knowledge, experience, and demonstrated passion for, and interest in, the health and welfare issues and identifying clinical risk affecting young people and improving health outcomes, together with:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications (undergraduate and postgraduate) in psychology. social work, nursing or occupational therapy, with discipline specific registration or accreditation

• Highly developed clinical skills in mental health triage, assessment, planning and intervention, including crisis management.

• Knowledge, skills, and experience in the provision of direct clinical care to young people who have experienced mental illness, including the delivery of contemporary, recovery focused, evidence-based psychological interventions for a range of mental health conditions.

• A commitment to culturally safe practice that is respectful, non-judgemental and inclusive.

• Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

• Current working with children check, national police check and drivers licence.

• Evidence of healthcare worker immunisation or immunity to communicable vaccine-preventable diseases.
